Chances at UC-Berkeley, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Stanford, MIT, Caltech

Hey all, I’ll be a senior in the fall. It’d just be nice to have an idea of where I stand at each of these universities (although MIT/Stanford/Caltech are basically crapshoots anyways so you might not want to even bother) and/or tell me what’s strong/weak about my profile. Also, feel free to suggest any other colleges that may suit me as well!

White male.

ACT: 36 (English 36, Math 36, Reading 34, Science 36). 8 essay lol.
SAT: 2250 (CR 670, Math 800, Writing 780).
SAT II: Physics 800, Math II 800, Chemistry 740 (will Chem hurt me?!?)
GPA (weighted): 4.463
Unweighted: 4.0

Classes: I’ve taken AP US History, AP Calc BC, and AP Chemistry during sophomore year and AP Gov, AP Physics C, IB English, IB German, IB Math HL year two (teacher made it so Calc BC was year one’s curriculum) junior year.

Next year I’m taking AP Comp Sci, our school’s engineering academy (will that look good or bad?), IB English year two, IB German year two, IB Further Math (class after IB year two with a range of math topics like Discrete Math, Graph Theory, Number Theory, Linear Algebra, etc, but it doesn’t go very in-depth. It’s the first year our school will have taught it).

AP Scores: 5s on Chem, Calc BC, US History, US Gov, Physics C Mech, Physics C E&M

Got a 7/7 on the IB Math HL exam.

Right now I’m on the fence between Physics, Math, and Engineering (Mech/Aerospace) for college majors.

ECs:

Three years varsity Cross Country (named captain at end of junior year)
Four years varsity Track and Field
Four years Math Team
Three years Mu Alpha Theta
NHS
Two years Physics Club
Two years FRC Robotics (I drove the robot a little during an invitational last year and will probably be one of the drivers this year)
Two years Concert Band
Qualified for and competed in the OHMIO (Ohio Math Olympiad) last year.

My running times are decent, but I’m really only good enough to run at/be recruited at Carnegie Mellon/Caltech. I already talked to the Caltech coach last week lol (as if it actually matters).

Volunteering as a counselor for a summer running camp this summer (around 50 hours total).

Volunteered at our middle school’s “outdoor education” camp as a counselor (last year and the year before for two days in November).

Volunteered at the FLL invitational and at our FRC event for ~20 hours.

Volunteered by helping middle school Math Counts students (did it 3-4 times) for Mu Alpha Theta.

Tutored a student in AP Chem last year for free (~20 hours total).

I work over the summer 15-25 hours a week, will probably continue it into the school year a bit.

Awards: Likely NMSF, AP scholar-- with distinction! (lol)

Questions/Fears: (lol)

Will my SAT I score hurt me (I already sent it to some schools right after I took it last November)?
Will my SAT II Chem score hurt me?
Will colleges care if I got a 7 on the IB Math HL exam?
Does a lack of internships/research hurt (idk how everyone gets these…)?
Will no AIME qualification hurt (got around 80-90 on the AMC I think)?

Thanks a bunch

Your chances for all the schools except MIT/Stanford/Caltech are very good due to your perfect ACT. That is a huge plus as well as your GPA. You need more “direction” in your ECs and passion for the 3, although you still have a solid chance.

Yeah, my ECs aren’t exactly the strongest… the problem is that I don’t want to be one of those people who’s just the president of like 4 clubs to look good for colleges, I just like to do clubs for fun :stuck_out_tongue:

Is a perfect ACT really that useful? I always thought that colleges didn’t even care about that (which I thought was a bit unfair lol with my obvious bias), but maybe they appreciate it a bit.

Oh yes, the ACT is useful. You have to submit either the SAT or ACT. The SAT score is very high, and with a perfect ACT will likely have no negative effect.
