I know my GPA is low for these colleges, but I was wondering how much the upward trend in my GPA will help me. My GPA from junior year was almost a full point higher than the one from sophomore year.

I think San Diego is a safe bet, especially with your EC’s, UCB is a little out of reach with your gpa, but UCB loves to pick students for who they are as a person so the personal statement really helps.

As long as your UC personal statements are strong and represent your true passion(s), you could be able to hit UCB and/or UCLA even with your GPA. However, these schools have become more selective over the years.

I think UCSD and USC are somewhat safe bets. Why not think of schools such as USD? With your SAT/SAT II/Extracurricular Activities, you could very well qualify for the 30k/year scholarship they extend to students.

A UC GPA is different than your school GPA. For California residents, they really only care about your 10-11 grades/GPAs. They also ONLY allow 8 semesters of honors and AP classes to count for a weighted GPA. So, for me, my sophomore and junior years had a total of 7 classes that were AP/Honors which is 14 semesters of AP/Honors right? However, UC’s will only count 8 semesters of AP/Honors classes toward your “Weighted UC GPA”. So they only count 8/14 in my case. If you can provide that, then I can give you some more help on chances :). And by the way, UC’s don’t superscore your SATs

My school doesn’t weight honors classes, so I was only counting eight semesters of weighted classes anyway. I tried calculating my UC GPA, including the spanish class I took over the summer and I got an unweighted GPA of 3.67 and a weighted of about 3.97. And I only included the superscore for my SATs because USC takes the superscore.

I dont understand the point of keeping bumping this thread. You got good and accurate responses. UCB/UCLA is a reach, certainly not a safety. UCSD/USC may be a match. Again, you are in the gray area, Try to maintain all A’s in your first semester 12th grade. Work on your essays.

Hi everyone, I’m bringing this thread back again because I talked to a representative from UCB when he visited my school yesterday. He told me that he’s never heard of there being a 8 semester limit for AP and honors courses counting towards your weighted UC GPA. If that is the case, then my Weighted UC GPA is 4.04 and my uw is 3.65. Does this increase my chances at all or does it not make a difference?

You have a decent shot, but applying as a biology major is difficult. Instead, you should apply for a more scarce major and transfer after you have been admitted.

It seems your on the rise! Keep it up! Just remember that Berkeley has started to resemble some Ivy Leagues, in which some ridiculously qualified applicants are being rejected. However, it looks like you stand a good chance of getting in, but still consider it a slight reach. If you could, please chance me back. Thanks!

I know, I was surprised when he said that there was no limit, but he definitely a legit rep lol. I also heard that Berkeley looks at your uncapped GPA is you’re a California resident, so maybe that was what he was talking about.
