Hi everyone. I was wondering if you guys could evaluate my chances of getting into Cal. It has been my dream school for as long as I could remember and I'm really unsure of whether I'll even be able to be accepted or not.

SAT: 2100
Math: 750
CR: 700
Writing: 650

GPA: 3.9 unweighted , 4.2 weighted (I've only taken 3 weighted classes my junior year because my school doesn't let us take weighted classes before that)
Class Rank: Top 15%
By the time I graduate, I will have taken 5 APs and I have received scores of 4's and 5's for the ones I have taken so far. I've also only taken honors class (English) during my junior year.

ECs:
JV Basketball (9)
MUN Treasurer (11), MUN secretary (12) (I have been heavily involved with this club ever since freshman year but just never held a position in the club)
Writer for School Newspaper (12)

Had an internship my junior year summer doing secretarial work (I'm not sure if this will help me or not though xP)

Also, I went to an international school in China for five years until I was a sophomore when I came back California for school. So I pretty much only have grades here from 10th - 12th grade. The grading system is entirely different between both schools with my international school being an IB school. Will this affect my chances of getting into Cal?

I don’t think you’d be held accountable for going to school in China, but then again I don’t think it will help you either. Your scores stack up well to others and the fact that you are a California resident helps too! The only hinderance I see is a slight lack of leadership roles but there are definitely still some present here! Overall I would say your chances are pretty good! Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I wish I could do something about my EC’s but it’s a little too late now…
Can I get some more evaluations from other people as well?

I also don’t think they will count China against you. Its good that you scored lowest in writing (because it matters least), however, try to take again in October and see whether you can improve those writing and CR scores. You say you are writer for a school newspaper, maybe try to write an article for your local newspaper and get it published, I don’t know how easy that is, but one of my friends did it and supposedly it looked good (if you are interested in a literature or english major). Also, try volunteering someplace, I just started volunteering for my local library a month ago, and I became a board member since I was a student and they apparently really wanted a student board member (this helped me for leadership). You might be surprised at the opportunities available for student volunteers. I think you definitely have a chance, and can improve your chances by slightly improving your SAT scores and maybe doing some volunteer work.

I’m definitely taking it again in October and adding a couple of more SAT II’s in November. Hopefully I’ll be able to get at least a 2200 on the next one! Oh, and for the school newspaper, you actually have to apply to get into the class and whatever you write is most likely published. I’m actually looking into journalism majors but sadly, Berkeley doesn’t have any undergrad programs ): I actually have done community service and was a teaching assistant at my local Chinese school for about 2 years already.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Hopefully this extra information will increase my chances? I’m not sure but thank you anyways! (:

Yes, I think SAT and my EC’s are so far my weakest points…hopefully I can raise my SAT score another 100 points by october!
Thanks for your opinion (:

I was wondering, do UC’s care a lot about your EC’s?
