Chances at UC Berkeley?

So UC Berkeley has always been my dream school, and I just wanted to hear about other people's opinions about my chances of getting in.

Sophomore Year:
--> 1st semester- honestly didn't do well at all. I received C's in AP World and Algebra 2, a D in Chemistry Honors, a B in Chinese, and A's in English, PE, and dance.
(Both AP World and Chem Honors are weighted classes)
***The fact that I didn't do well was mainly due to my mother and father both being diagnosed with cancer at the same time, and my father was only expected to live for a certain amount of time (I don't really wanna go in depth about it, but having to live on with that news affected me emotionally and my grades).

However, I managed to overcome the news, and have gotten all A's for the second semester of sophomore year, and throughout junior year.

The following weighted classes I took during junior year include: AP Bio, AP Psychology, AP Chemistry, and Chinese Honors.

Oh, and btw, I have taken online community college classes (8 in total) during the summer time and throughout the school years. I have gotten a B during first semester of sophomore year, and A's for the rest.

ACT Composite score: 34

EC's include archery team (9-12 grade; captain 11-12 grade), pre-med club (9-12 grade; president from 10-12 grade), local hospital volunteer (over 200 hours), intern of an environmental science program (10th-12th grade).

And if it helps, I am planning on majoring in biology :)

I heard that colleges like applicants who have EC's that associate with your major... is that true?

Oh, and what would my chances be for UCLA and UC Davis? Those are my other choices so yeaaah. Thank you guys!

So, what’s your GPA?

Oh, my bad I forgot to include them! Weighted=3.93, and unweighted=3.71

High reach due to GPA

But doesn’t UC Berkeley look beyond your GPA?

I said high reach considering your situation. Remeber there are high achieving students with excellent gpa who go through so much craps in their lives. not saying your circumstances were nothing special but just remember what I said.

Are you in-state?

Yepp!

Although your GPA is a bit lower than average, I think that your circumstances will better explain them, at least a bit, to colleges. Your ECs are good (very close to your major) and so is your ACT so I think you’ll probably get into at least one. Good luck!
UCB: low reach
UCLA: low reach/high match
UCD:match
