SO...Do I have a shot at Berkley??

Not only no, but hell no

why.... and what can I do to improve those chances....is ucsd a better bet

Are you in state? If not, you are in trouble. If you are, I think you might be okay.

Is 4.31 your UC GPA? If it is, you a great shot. The average GPA at Berkeley is 4.17. What is your unweighted GPA?

Is your rank high? UC's dont officially consider class rank, but it will give us a better idea than an arbitrary GPA.

Your SATI is average, but it is said that UC's weight SAT II's more, which will benefit you.

EC's are not bad but nothing phenomenal.

More info & I can give you a better idea...I suppose you are anywhere from a match to a slight reach :)

heres some more info:

I am from California, that is my UC GPA, and my unweighted GPA is a 3.95 ( My class rank is about top 7%.

Now.... where do I stand.

You have a solid chance, but I suppose it could go either way. However, I think your chances are above 50%. A 2100 on the SAT could make you an extremely competitive applicant; a 2200 would just about get you in for sure. Surely you can make some improvements by October.

I found a site that has really detailed admissions statistics for UCLA, which is comparable to Berkeley in terms of selectivity. Approximately half of the applicants w/ your SAT scores are accepted. The average GPA of the students that applied with your SAT scores is a 4.06. What this means is your chances are considerably greater than 50%, but there are no guarantees.

Hope that helps.

thanks a lot....by the way, could I see that site

the data table is the little chart. you can click on it & it will become readable.

Your SAT is comparable to about a 1350 on the old scale. But you are closer to 1400 in terms of other applicants due to solid SAT scores.

The article isn't important. It is merely pointing out how UCLA rejects some kids that get a 1500 for some kids that get a 900.
