chances at uc schools out of state

im from illinois and im trying to get into UCLA Berkeley and UC-San Diego
I have a 3.98 GPA weighted at a very difficult public high school in the suburbs
my unweighted GPA is about 3.6
my ACT is a 32
my SAT is a 1240, 640 math 600 verbal
SAT 2s 640 US history 650 writing
i got a 4 on both AP histories
my senior schedule is
AP French
AP Statistics
AP Gov’t
AP Senior English
Honors Economics
AP Physics-B

what are my chances at each UC campus

pdarch31:

UCLA: Super Reach (out of state)
UCB: Super Reach (out of state)
UCSD: Reach (out of state)

I concur with the post above.

Ditto what the others said. Unless you raise those test scores up or you have an amazing hook, the UC's from out of state are going to be reaches

not even the 32 on the ACT will get me in?

One of my D's fridnes got into Berkley this year from a competitive, suburban IL hs. Her stats:

34-35 ACT
1500 + SAT
4.4-4.5 weighted GPA
top 10 in her class

Berkley for oos is pretty comprable to the ivies.

what high school? i go to barrington and we are pretty competitive but stevenson and new trier are really intense

pdarch:

unfortunately, the UC's look at gpa first, and the competition is extreme for OOS kids. In-state suburban kids need a 3.9 uw, 4.2 w (based on UC approved classes) to have a good shot at accpetance at the flagships. Also, the Writing SATII is big out here -- and requires 700 to be in the competitive range. (Berkeley & UCLA has a low range of SAT's bcos they only accept one sitting, and they give big tips to low income kids).

To respond to your query: I'd say Berkeley and UCLA are out of reach and not worth the app fee, and San Diego is a stretch; but, then I'm rather conservative estimator. Recognize that both schools turn down literally dozens of 1600's every year.

dude, you wouldn't get in if you were in state... try UCSC or maybe UCSB (even that is a reach) if you really want to go to a UC
