Hi! I am planning on applying to most UC schools in California including UCSD (my top choice), UCI, UCSC, UCSB, and possibley UCLA and UCB. I'm also going to apply to USC and Vanguard Univeristy of Southern California. SDSU will mainly be my back up. These schools aren't definite at i will probably look at others as well. my school is a highly competitive school, and i have heard that getting into colleges have been a lot harder lately. i really want to see where i stand and what i can do to achieve to top school. :]

so what are my chances? i'm a bit worried about my SAT score after seeing a lot of average scores for the schools i want to get into are around 2000. i will be retaking it again but i don't believe i can reach 2000.

yeah, getting to 2000 is pretty tough, i don't know how my other friends do it their first try. I'm hoping my personal essay gets me in too, but i'm still anxious!

SoccerDude,
Admittance to SC is becoming more difficult. The mean composite score of all admitted applicants for the incoming 2008 class was 2108. Admittance rates to the Schools of Cinematic Arts, Theater and Music are at or below the 5% rate. Admittance rates to the Marshall School of Business and the Annenberg School of Communications are not that low, but are still competitive.
Naturally, some students will have below or above that score, but that is the one listed in the USC News article on 3/28/08 by James Grant.
These numbers are from the new 2008 freshman profile:
Applicants: 35,901
New class: 2,766

National Merit Scholars 244
National Achievement Scholars 14

thank you Georgia Girl for the clarification! I have also heard that USC has become much harder to get into as well.

And thanks kisspig for your comment! i really hope i can get into UCSD, and i'm not much of a partier but SDSU is one of my back up choices just in case! :D

First of all, do you live in california? It's much easier to get into UC's if your in-state. Second, I wouldn't suggest going to a school just because some of your friends are going there. You'll meet tons of new people at any college you go to, and I believe that it's a waste to just go to a school to be with a few friends (unless you really want to go there for the programs/education as well). Third, UCSB is the party school of california :). Fourth, Blah, I'm going to stop saying #'s. I would also suggest taking the ACT instead of the SAT. It's getting pretty late to sign up but I believe you still have 1 or 2 chances left (cutting it close, definitely not in time for early app). I found the ACT to be a lot easier. The math/reading was a lot easier than the SAT and the english is junior high level (whatever sounds the best is usually right). The science is the hardest for most people because your pushed on time while you have to look at data-graphs,charts,paragraphs,etcetc- which can be annoying. I believe the ACT is easier overall however, if your bad at time management then it could be a tougher test for you. Lastly, i'm not really sure how to say chance me at "blank" so if you can just look up my name on the forum search list haha thanks (title is "UCLA/USC/Notre Dame" or something like that).
