Chances at UC system and USC- first chance thread!

You have plenty of ECs, they’re just scattered around. For example, you have volunteering at a hospital in Russia to MUN work to awards regarding Computers…I don’t see what you’re passionate about…what major did you apply to these schools at? As for the SAT scores, I know of plenty of kids with similar SAT scores who got in and you can’t do anything about that now. Your rank seems a bit low, but I think with a solid essay, you could get in to UCSD and maybe UCLA. UCLA is a slight reach because there are probably other people from your school with similar if not better stats.

yes but i ave Youth Bringing Global peace, a club i founded on my high school campus, i wrote my essay about that cuz its my real passion. we put on a peace conference at my high school with our state assemblyem as one of the speakers, and over 300 attendees from all over la county. i wrote about that, which is what i focused on, and I had leadership positiions in all my clubs. sure ppl are more qualified numbers wise, but not the passion and EC OF HAVING SOMETHING LIke the club i founded.

ill be frank about this, you seriously have a SLIM, if no, chance at UCLA. its THE MOST competitive school right now, receives most applications of any school, and acceptance rate today is something ridiculous, like 22%, and i expect it to get harder with each passing year with more and more students applying. if you dont have a shot at UCLA , you certainly wont do well for Cal or JHU. i see you having a fair shot at irvine and sd (as long as u didnt mess up the choices for sd). i never applied to SUC but they say its a little similar to that of UCLAs or a little lower, but privates look at the EC alot more closely than publics do.
your ECs and GPA look very good, but theres only so much that they could do…

how can i mess up choices for sd?

they say the order of colleges matters

i believe i put revelle college first and sixth college second… what do you think?

i was also wondering how the social life is at ucsd. i figure if im only applying those schools ucsd would be the way to go (right?) and i’ve heard some mixed things… would be great if someone with experience could clear it up

LOL… ok, even IF you got into ucsd for revelle college, i dont think youll like it… my friends at Revelle say its “Hell on earth,” so much damn work. if you happen to get into sixth thatll get some pressure offa you…

i dont think choosing colleges is much of a problem, considering you put sixth as your second choice (sixth is the easiest to get into, but you end up with the crappiest dorms, literally wooden cabins which they all call Camp Snoopy haha, you guys are the furthest from the beach and other recreation like the RIMAC gym, but you guys are the closest to the classes looooool). i say, pray that you either get into Muir (easiest GEs) or Warren or sixth (if you dont mind all of which i said before about sixth)

hopefully ull get in in this order: muir, warren, sixth or marshall doesnt really matter, then ERC, and last is revelle

Also, another downer about ucsd is that it is SOCIALLY DEAD (meaning that on weekends EVERYONE either stays in their dorm or goes off campus), but hey, if you like to party, TJ (tijuana, mexico) is only 20 minutes away and SDSU, a REALLLLLL party school, is even closer…

btw, if you do know, tell me the rest of the order of the colleges you submitted, ill see if i can be of any more help

**** that made me feel really bad… can i switch from colelges, man when i was ranking it i read about each, i was like ***fff it all seemed the same so i just put some random order crap! no one tells us this stuff

revelle
sixth
roosevelt
muir
marshall
warren

^that order

Er, you’re supposed to research them before you rank them. Revelle isn’t so bad. Many people love it. Some people hate it. It’s like UChicago – you have to love the requirements. I think you might be able to change colleges, though it’d probably be difficult.

To be honest, though, I think your best shot is UCI. You might get into UCSD, but UCI is more likely.

i tired researching but it all seemed the same no real difference. i should have posted on this forum but i didnt think of that. hopefully it wont be that bad

once u get in, you can change colleges, but its DAMN DIFFICULT. theres an entire procedure to it, like you gotta show UCSD that you can graduate quicker, if not the same time, and some other stuff. and you CANT try and transfer because “my friends in muir or whereever, and i wanna be with him/her” because theyll throw that case out in the blink of a eye…

yea nobody really said anything about the different colleges so that really sucks. luckily i choose muir first, then revelle, and muir choose me first.

yea, well hopefully you can get INTO ucsd first, then we can worry about the colleges later. after all, every one of you is a triton, though i feel like its so damn hard for students to graduate in some colleges than it is for others of different ones

Considering UCSD admits 49% of its applicants, I think you have a pretty good chance. Don’t worry so much about the order of the colleges. Your have a lot of ECs, but your grades aren’t stellar, so that’s the only thing that’s sort of standing out.

Oh and it also depends on your major. If you’re applying under a major that not a lot of people go for, then your chances of admission are greater.

yea… what major did you choose for ucsd?? hope you didnt pick an impacted major that you dont wanna do…

Well, I think it’d be more accurate to say that your chances are lower if you go for a competitive major. Either way, the effect is still the same – as long as you go for a non-competitive major, your chances will be better. Note, though, that going for an uncommon major (think underwater basket-weaving) won’t help.

for every school i put undeclared- physical sciences, except for ucsd, which i chose: bioengineering: pre-med

HAHAHHAHAHAHHA omg… what are we to do. pretty competitive at sd. if sd doesnt work out i see you doing very at uci

are you serious??? what a letdown! i was going to put undeclared, i dont even know why i declared a major there damn! irvine would be a letdown, i read that 60% of their students are asian. thats a LOT of asians! man… that sucks. so what you think my chances are for sd… omg i cant believe im questioning ucsd, i thought that was a sure thing. i still really want cal or ucla.

i still have time, should i change the major?
