Chances at UCB, UCLA, CMU

I'll be applying to colleges this fall, and I just wanted to get an idea of my chances of getting into these colleges plus other places where I should apply.

Top schools I'd want to go:
UC Berkeley
UC Los Angeles
Carnegie Mellon (Technology)
Cornell
CalTech (possibly)

I'd be applying as a Mechanical Engineering major

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: South Asian
High School : Public
State: California

Tests:
ACT 33 composite
SAT 2240
SAT II World History 740
Also taking SAT II for Chemistry and Math I

GPA: 3.8 unweighted, 4.2 weighted
Class Rank: Not sure, but top 10%

AP Classes:
Sophomore: Euro History, 5
Junior: Chemistry, English, Computer Science A, Spanish, US History
Senior: Physics, Gov/Econ, Calculus BC, Statistics, Psychology

ExtraCirriculars:
Played piano for 9 years, going to be getting a diploma later this year
Play another cultural instrument
National Honor Society: 9, 11
California Scholarship Federation: 9, 10, 11
Junior Varsity Basketball: 9
Community Service: 70+ hours at random places
Internship: Will be working somewhere over summer doing research
Work: 10, 11 worked with a PhD in mechanical engineering
Robotics Club: 9, 10, 11 (Probably most powerful E.C, been actively interested in it since 7th grade, started middle school club, joined high school club, placed internationally, etc. I have been Vice President the past 2 years and will be the President as a senior - At least one essay will probably be on this)

My major concern is what colleges will think of my freshman year. I had a 3.6 freshman year but I've held a 4.0 or higher over sophomore and junior year. How much do you think that it would affect me?

Thanks

You have five top three schools.

Oops, sorry started out as 3 and then I just remembered 2 more that I was thinking of as well… :P

UC Berkeley-accepted
UC Los Angeles-accepted
Carnegie Mellon (Technology)-waitlisted, could go either way
Cornell-waitlisted, could go either way
CalTech (possibly)-waitlisted, leaning toward rejected

most colleges look at your sophomore and junior year and some senior, since most of your important courses are taken then. i think your freshman year may have affected your overall gpa, but i don’t think it was a deal breaker
