<p>hi. i;m a rising senior from los angles, ca. i was wondering if i could get some input about my position with the ucs, more specifically, ucb, ucla, and ucsd. my top choice amongst those is berkeley and i will be applying under the Molecular and Cell Bio (MCB) major and i reallllyyyy want to get in. i've heard that berkeley is crazy competitive and insane for that major, almost like it is for eecs. is this true? will applying under mcb hurt my chances?
my stats:
uc gpa was 4.067 after 1st semester jr yr, probably ~3.99/4.0ish now
rank was 39/888 after 1st semester jr yr, probably ~45/888ish now (i go to the crazy competive hgm at north hollywood)
nov sat ii math 2c 800
jan sat (old) 1590 (m 790, v 800)
mar sat (new) 2230 (m 800, v 680, w 750)
june sat (new) 2210 (m 760, v 690, w 760)
will take sat ii lit and sat ii bio come october
i dont know if this matters, but my psat was 221 (national merit semifinalst, at least)
i have some ecs but they're not jaw droppingly amazing. just mostly volunteering at a hospital 4 hrs/week for the past 3 years
and science olympiad, which ive been part of since 9th grade and have a whole slew of medals and ribbons from our competitons.
my aps. i have taken a lot of them because the program i am in doens;t allow us to pick our classes. so i have my share of 5s and 4s but i do have some 1s.i'm wondering if the 1s do a lot of damage and if i should withhold them. if they detract even the least from my chances into berkeley, ucla, or ucsd im willing to shell down the money and have them withheld.
