Chances at UChicago?

Currently a freshman at a top-40 public university that is notorious for academic rigor; applying for sophomore status in fall of 2012.

High school credentials-

SAT IIs: 740 French, 660 Biology
- President of French National Honors Society
- French tutoring
- National French Competition (National Laureate)
- French exchange program
- volunteer service at animal shelter

College credentials-

- cartoonist for school newspaper
- staff writer for school newspaper
- DJ at school radio station
- volunteer service at animal shelter
- French club
- psychology club

"Honors:"
- Dean's List
- Principal's Honor Award (high school; two years in a row)
- IB diploma
- NFC National Laureate

Hook(s): URM, parental divorce

I plan on majoring in psychology and studying media in graduate school.
As stated above, I make comics. I plan on submitting a portfolio of these comics to admissions.

I don't really feel worthy of this school so I'd appreciate any opinions on whether or not I should take the time to apply. Thanks

You have a shot, but not a great one. Might want to consider waiting until junior year if you can make your GPA even better. Why do you want to leave georgia tech so badly?

first of all, I think you have a shot, but very slim one.
secondly. Chicago does not consider Writing in SAT, so brings your SAT to 1340/1600. If you would like retake, it will increase your chances.
Thirdly, Chicago does not give much FA to transfers. So you need to prepare for it, unless you can pay full freight.

You need a killer essay to get in.

I want to transfer out of Georgia Tech because it is a miserable fit for a psychology major who wishes to explore other academic pursuits while working towards a degree. I also want a more intellectually diverse and stimulating environment.
I appreciate the advice, but there’s no way I’m waiting until junior year.

Georgia Tech is a tough school! I really don’t see why you “barely” have a shot.

Your grades look really good and your EC’s look great. I feel like you have a fairly strong application. (But I don’t have a great feel for things like this)

Good luck, fellow Georgian :D

Thanks, guy. It’s nice to know someone’s rooting for me
