Chances at UChicago?

Yeah -- I'm definitely not a perfect student with perfect grades...
State: NJ
GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.4 W (I have taken a very rigorous courseload -- as indicated by my weighted GPA)
SAT: 2070 (1430 M+V) <-- Retaking for 2150+
SAT II:
Math IIC: 720
Chemistry: 710
*I go to an extremely competitive school
*we do not rank because of overly-competitive atmosphere

EC
Freshman Summer-- Took classes at local community college
Sophomore Summer -- UPenn PreCollege Program
Junior Summer -- Taking classes at state university

JV Lacrosse (9,10)
Summer LaX League (9)
Red Cross (9,10,11)
Amnesty International (10)
Model UN (10,11)
National Spanish Honors Society (11)
Have attended numerous national conferences in Model UN and have won several Individual Awards
200+ hours of volunteering at Nursing Home
New Jersey Legislature Citation of Praise for my Community Service

*Model UN basically consumes about half of all my free time weekly, I've put tons of effort into it and have won Individual Awards at National Conferences. I think I really want to emphasize how MUN has changed me as a person in my essays.

Both my grandparents attended University of Chicago (my grandfather's doctoral dissertation is still in the library!) I also have a uncle on-staff at the University of Chicago Med School.

well coming from someone who has been accepted and is going to UChicago....I'd say you have a decent chance.

Just remember this, it's all about the essays. Own them, and you will own admission.

thanks -- I'm also applying EA, will that help my chances?

yes , tremendously

Applying EA won't necessarily help your chances; search previous threads for discussion about this as there has been quite a bit.

do my connections with the University help me at all?
As for the essays-- just to prepare for Uchicago, I wrote an pre-college app essay for the "what function would you be?" prompt. I know they won't use the same question, but I will put tons of effort into my essay (im a pretty good writer).

Anyone else out there with input? I need all the help I can get!

the infamous "bump"

yet another bump

no more takers? :(

UChicago is not all about grades, gpa, etc. Have you taken a look at the other questions on the app? The essays and short answer questions give you a much greater opportunity to illustrate your character and whatnot, so writing well will help you considerably. Try to focus on more than just Model UN, maybe tie it in with something else. UChicago loves creative thinkers. Create your own question, have fun with it. As for the other questions, find something else that you are passionate about. If you really want to go to UChicago, they should be able to know by reading your responses. Have fun, and good luck!

yeah -- UChicago is definitely not SAT-oriented. I've read the life of the mind and I looked over the uncommon application for last year, as well as the essay questions. Hopefully once the new essay questions are posted, I will be able to begin writing.
