My EXTRA CURRICULARS are nice. I'm a high officer in student government, leadership club, my own club, debate team, and am in National Honors Society (only top 10% of your class can get in after a screening process with previous teachers). I also have a lot of volunteerwork, as well.

My AWARDS are both academic and regional and include piano awards, homecoming king, JETs state finalists, 30th best debater in my state, and state-wide gold medal from the National Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition for my scifi piece.

My ESSAYS are also very strong, accentuating my ability to balance between social + academic lives (how much I've changed debate team from freshman to senior year singlehandedly (not to brag or anything haha)), as well as my strong Azerbaijani background and how it builds upon the person I am (I talked about a really funny experience that taught me a serious important lesson).

UCLA is my top BY FAR, so I sent them a letter just quickly saying how much I want to go there and how pretty much I'd ED if theyd let me. I know they probably wont read it but it was worth a shot!

I think/hope greatly I can get in, despite the bad standardized test scores, but can I get a second opinion please?

Thank you so much!!!

Also, if you want, please tell my chances at:
Berkeley,
USC,
Cornell,
Columbia,
McGill,
UVa,
NYU

In my experiences with the UC system out of state, it seems that UC Berkeley would be more likely to accept you than UCLA, mainly because Berkeley seems to focus more on GPA, whereas UCLA seems to focus more on test scores and it is not too common to get into more than one of the top UC schools (UCSD, UCLA, UCB). Mind you, my only experience comes from myself and a friend of mine (he had a high GPA and comparable SAT scores and was accepted into UCB; I had an average GPA and high SATs and was accepted into UCLA). That being said, your GPA and ECs are very impressive and should get you into one of your top choices.

Otherwise-
USC: Low Match
Cornell: High Match
Columbia: Low Reach
McGill: High Match
UVA: High Match
NYU: Low Match/Match

Oh out of state could help you this year! I’m kind of wondering if being in state will hurt my chances!

I think
UCB: Low Reach (reaches because they’re still quite competitive)
UCLA: Low Reach (same as statement above)
USC: Match
Cornell: Low Reach/ Match
Columbia: Reach
UVA: Match
NYU: Match

Good luck! Mind chancing me back? =) No problem if you don’t though.

UCLA has begun the practice of admitting several thousand students more than it can handle. In other words there are no physical seats for between 3 and 5 thousand students!
The administration claims that they are not doing this but it is a fact. I have seen many students who cannot find classes for the fall even though they have been admitted. This means that the usual four year degree will take about 6 years at best. UCLA has become a profit driven institution that has lowered its priorities on education. I have been at UCLA for fifteen years and I finally quit my job over this foolishness. Apply elsewhere if you want a good education!!!
