Hello world!
So one of my really close friends wants to know her chances for UCLA, but she doesn't have a CC account, so I thought I would post this for her. Her GPA is a bit low because of her lack of motivation/getting distracted in the first few years of high school. However, she is now absolutely serious about her future considering that she will be studying what she is truly passionate about. He stellar essays definitely show how committed she is.

GPA(UW): 3.2
SAT: 1900

EC's: On high school journalism staff (Special Report section editor), local post Medical Explorers club officer, Peer-Counseling club member, officer of a local teen publication, volunteer at local hospital, Future Practicing Physician's Network member

She plans to major in Neuroscience and then go into either the School of Medicine or Nursing.

Also, it would be great if you could also refer some more fitting schools for her. Among UCLA, she is considering other UC's, CSU Long Beach (for nursing only), Boston University, Syracuse University, and NYU. Which one's does she have a legitimate chance for?

Hi, you could tell her to create an account - it’s definitely a lot more helpful if you have your own account. As for UCs, I’m not too sure if she has a chance at the UCs…I heard that you had to have a certain GPA or something? I think it was at least 3.4-3.5 but don’t take my word for it because I’m not 100% sure. Well anyway the application deadline is done so there’s no point stressing about it anymore.

Her SAT score is kind of low for BU and NYU. I think you need at least a 2000, unless you really stand out for ECs. 2100 should be relatively safe.

Does she have any hooks? Eg. is she an underrepresented minority? That could help.

Thanks for the quick reply! For UC’s, she has applied to Davis, Irvine, LA, San Diego, and Santa Cruz. I don’t she applied to any of the other ones…

@corsairre The UC GPA requirement is a 3.0. Also, my friend is a junior right now, so she will be retaking the SAT later on (in January?). Maybe she can still improve her chances.

Ahh okay, that’s much better. I thought she was a senior, and I was like …why are you asking after the deadline? lol. Well in that case, she definitely needs to boost up her SAT to 2100+ to be competitive for UCLA, preferably at least 2200. I’m not too sure about this, but I think the UCs weigh GPA and SAT higher than smaller colleges (like compared to essays and ECs) so those are very important. She should also work her ass off this year and get her GPA up.
