Chances at UConn Honors Program?

SAT: 2220/1420 (superscore)
Math 720
Reading 700
Writing 800
I know UConn only looks at mat and reading.

ACT: 31 composite

GPA: 3.8ish UW, 4.390 W
Class rank: Top 5%
Ethnicity: Asian

Extracurriculars: Cross country captain, mock trial vice president, bunch of other clubs, summer hospital volunteer. Overall pretty decent but not particularly special

Ethnicity: First generation Asian, I took the TOEFL and everything

You look like a great candidate for the Honors Program. Keep up the good work and expect a scholarship to be thrown in your direction as well.

Are you instate by any chance? If so that will help even more.

Does UConn consider everyone that applies for a scholarship? Or only if you applied by a certain date/checked something off in your application?

@TeenageDreamer When I applied two years ago UConn had Early Action(EA) and it was advised that you apply by the EA deadline for the best scholarship consideration.

Since UConn no longer has EA, I would assume that they consider everyone who applied by the Jan 15th deadline for a scholarship. Traditionally most of the scholarship money goes to students invited into the honors program but they are also offered to non-honors students.

The most common seems to be the academic/leadership excellence scholarship which is a 1/2 tuition scholarship. Valedictorians and Salutatorians automatically receive full tuition scholarships.

The scholarship letter will come in the mail with your acceptance package which will arrive after your online admission decision.

Actually just checked the website and applications submitted by DECEMBER 1st are given priority consideration for these scholarships.

Thanks! Yup, I’m in-state.

TeenageDreamer-My son is a freshman this year. When he applied last year, you had to have your app in by Dec 1st for consideration for scholarships.

One comment to make on the scholarship front- I’m not sure as far as other grants go, but nominations for the Nutmeg Scholarship (that offers a full ride and whatnot) had to be completed by November 1, according to the website.

Pretty bummed about missing that myself, but since it wasn’t a widely advertised date my counselors were unaware too.

Yeah you are good…

I got in. Thanks guys!
