UC's cant use race as a factor in the admissions process. SO techinically...grade wise and test score wise..ur chances at top UC's are not that good.

"UC's cant use race as a factor in the admissions process. "

but under comprehensive review, it can still be revealed through essays. but i think the emphasis is not race here, but rather the fact that the OP had to overcome unique hardships:

"send money, food and clothing to my moms village in owerri, nigeria imo state."

i think that makes for a great essay topic that can show your character to the admissions committee (regardless of race).

couple other things that stand out is the big improvement from 10th grade to 11th grade, as well as some good accomplishments and leadership roles in music.

I think you have a good chance at some of these schools, but I really don't think that you have an 80-90% chance at Cal Poly or a 60-70% chance at UCSD. Sorry, but I don't want you to think that those are your safety schools because they are definitely not. Do you live in California?

Trust me i dont think they are my safety schools..and YES it's me again..with different stats. But i would just like to mention that i go to a CRAPPY HS...basically everyone gets into davis, ppl with 1100+ get into UCSD and below. and students with 1200+ get into CAL and UCLA, so i'm just wondering if my stats are good out of the people admitted to the UC's at my school.

If you loo at the averages for CalPoly and UCSD he's actually slightly above 4.00, and his scores seem okay. There's no doubt in my mind (I've reviewed many apps) that he will get UCSB and Cal Poly.
UCSD.. maybe not. Berkeley and UCLA are definitely reaches and he has proally 25% chance into either.

I would be ecstatic if i got into UCSD or USC! AHH oh well i guess i just have to wait and see how thing pan out. Hmm so Bubbles did you mean to put UCSD as a reach for me? Because a 60-70% chance seems pretty good to me? Well i just want to thank everyone for evaluating my "stats" haha even though there wasn't much to go off of...

Am I missing something here? Can what Caliplaya03 saying be true?
He (sorry if I miss judge your gender) is saying going to a non-competitive high school ,among under-challenged students is an advantage. He is saying the adcoms move the scale of acceptance according to how crappy the HS is. Would someone explain this to me and back it up with stats, please.

UCSD gives a 300 point boost on their selection formula (you had to earn about 7400 points this year to be admitted?) if you attended a disadvantaged high school.

Educational Environment
A disadvantaged educational/school environment indicates that the applicant attends a California high school that is among the 4th or 5th quintile of all California public high schools using the following academic indicators: high school completion rate, percentage of students enrolled in college preparation classes, percentage of students enrolled in Advanced Placement/Honors courses, percentage of students admitted to the UC/CSU, and the percentage of students taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT).

Although other UC's might not use a point system, the quality of your high school is still taken into consideration under comprehensive review.

While the UC's give an extra advantage in the admissions process to students from a deprived environment, note that they do NOT advocate the affirmative action system. URMs are not given any extra boost in admissions to UC schools; it's a common misconception.

URMs are not given an extra boost in admissions to UC's, but many of the URMs also just happen to fall into categories that qualify for extra boosts for UC's under comprehensive review. these include coming from disadvantaged high schools, first generation college student, low income, and other special circumstances or personal challenges, such as having to work or coming from a single parent family.

"send money, food and clothing to my moms village in owerri, nigeria imo state."

that falls under the special circumstances category and should be to your advantage in college admissions (at any college actually). it also makes for a great essay topic.
