Chances at UCs (Berkeley, LA, SD)!

<p>Hey! Sorry to bug you guys with another chances thread, but its been bugging me recently with the acceptance letters of the seniors coming out.</p>

<p>I'm in the class of 2008, Male Indian (But I'm guessing it counts as Asian anyway) at a competative high school in CA.</p>

<p>GPA UW for 10th and 11th (Predicting): 3.82 - 3.86
GPA W for 10th and 11th (Predicting and UC capped): 4.18 - 4.23</p>

<p>SAT: 2170 First Time (700CR, 730 M , 740 W)
2170 Second Time (610CR, 800M, 760W)
While I'm actually pretty happy with my SAT score overall, Im not so happy about the 610 in CR I took the second time (no idea what happened), so I'm probably going to retake in October 2007.</p>

<p>SAT IIs: Taking IIC and Bio in June, expect to do fairly well on both of them (750+)</p>

Digital Imaging (Art requirement)

<p>ECs:
Nothing amazing or special, but they are here:
Film Production Club 10-12: (10, Editor, 11 VP, 12 P)
League Soccer 8 Years
JV Soccer 11 (and most likely 12)
City Teen Newspaper: Reporter(10-12) and Webmaster (11,12)
Guitar 8-12
Debate: 10 (But I'm probably not even going to put it on my app, I had no passion for it.)</p>

<p>Community Service:
220 Hours at a hospital (Probably doing another 100 Hours this summer)</p>

<p>Outside classes:
Ballroom Dancing (Took beggining of Junior and planning to take the next level in Senior year)
Pyschology (Planning on taking this summer)</p>

<p>Thinking of applying to a Bio , Pre-med, or Neuroscience Major</p>

<p>Anyone want to chance me at. Any tips (If much can be done at this point):</p>

<p>^^ er, Berkeley/UCLA are more difficult to get into than UCSD, so UCSD wouldn't be a high match if they're a match.</p>

<p>You really don't need to retake the SAT...</p>

<p>I really don't want to retake it, but the 610 in Critical Reading is what bugs me, not the overall score.</p>

<p>You have a very very good chance for all of them. You are way above the average GPA acceptance rate for UCLA and a bit about for Berkely. I think your SATs are fine but you can always make them better. Keep up the good work!</p>

<p>i read in the newspaper a couple weeks ago an article about UC admissions. it said that two-thirds of applicants with a 4.0 and higher were rejected by the top ucs (la berk). the moral of the story is that you NEED to stand out. if you can write good essays in which you make your self seem unique i think you have a great shot at these schools. good luck!</p>

<p>p.s. those are killer sat scores. dont waste your time/$ with a retake.</p>

<p>Yeah, I've still yet to decide what I'm going to do with my SATs. Maybe I'll retake, maybe not. But yes, I shall aim for those awesome essays.</p>

<p>At Berkeley, over 40% with GPA over 4.0 were rejected. I dunno about UCLA.</p>

<p>You have good ECs, so that's one way of distinguishing yourself.</p>

<p>Pretty much agree with others, although I wish to point out here that Engineering and the Sciences are the toughest majors to get into at UCB, UCLA, and UCSD.</p>

<p>For this reason, you have a much better shot as a pre-med major at UCSD than at UCB or UCLA. The exception is if you want to major in neuroscience.</p>

<p>The neuroscience program at UCSD is actually ranked 2nd best in the country (even better than at UCB and UCLA), so it will be tough to get into that major at that school.)</p>

<p>work on that. you need to make yourself stand out in order to get into ucla/ucb. youll be fine getting into sd</p>

<p>I've updated the Stats that I finally got at the end of junior year. Hopefully these will help my chances.</p>
