Hi i hope someone can help me see what my chances are.

Chinese Male
SAT I: 2040 (going to retake in Dec, hope to break 2100)
Sat II: Bio 750 Math IIC 780

GPA UW: 3.2
GPA W: 3.3

EC (how important is this?):
Water Polo, 11th
Swimming Team, 10th
CSF: 10th - 12th
Interact Club: 9th - 11th

Major: Engineering (should i change this? considering that this major seems to be fairly popular)

Currently taking:
Calculus AB/AP
Physics AP
English 4
Computer Science AP

What are my chances for:
UCD, UCSD, UCSC, UCB, Cal Poly (and can someone explain what the "reaches" and "matches" mean in terms of chance of getting in?)

Does your 1st semester senior year have any impact whatsoever on your admission?? The only way I see of increasing my chances is to just up my SAT score.

Thanks to all who reply, i'm doing my UC application and i'm very worried about my chances

Your Sat's are excellent...well done
UCB: Big reach ( sorry your GPA is a bit off)
UCSD: reach/slight reach
UCD/UCSC: Match

reach = less than or equal to 20%
match= 50%
1st semester grades don't matter for admission but you acceptances could be rescinded if you get below a 3.0 unw average

And Ec's are VERY important

If you don't show that you are a well rounded student, no UC will accept you

i thought colleges these days look for students who focus on one area of thier ec's and excel really well at it rather than people who go to every club but dont really show excellence in one area

btw im not talking about you in particular Pastry, just a general question

fermented I think your remark is a bit harsh. the bottom tier UC are definately matches. UCR will embrace him with open arms no matter what his EC is.

And yes i think a few distinctive EC that shows you are committed is much better than a huge list.
