What are my chances of getting into UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB?
UC Weighted GPA: 4.33
Unweighted GPA: 4.00
SAT Score: 1960
Class rank: 28 of 854
AP Scores: 5 in Psychology, 4 in Calculus AB, 4 in APUSH, 3 in Biology
Extracurricular Activities: 1 year of tennis, volunteering for my city’s parks and recreation department (I’m currently volunteering and I anticipate having done about 30-35 hours by the time I apply), 32 hours of work experience
I understand that my ECs aren’t impressive and my SAT score needs improvement (I’m going to take the ACT next month), so UCLA seems like a reach, but I hope that UCSD is a realistic option. Also, I don’t know how this will factor into my application, but I’m Egyptian and I made sure to include that in my personal statements. Thanks in advance!
Ethnicity is not considered for UC admissions since they banned affirmative action. You need to bump up your SAT into the 2100 range for UCLA and UCSD. UCSB looks like a High Match but they like high test scores. What is your intended major?
If you are looking to apply for CS, you need above the average test scores. UCLA’s CS program acceptance rate is <15% and UCSC/UCSB are probably not too much higher. Really prep for the ACT and look for a 32+ to be competitive. CS related EC’s or some programming knowledge would be helpful.
I would also consider UCI/UCD and/or UCSC for strong CS programs.
You are a competitive applicant but, be sure to apply elsewhere. Assuming you are from CA, I’d suggest you also apply to UCI, UCD, UCSB and UCSC. I’d also apply to Cal Poly SLO.
That way you’ll have several to choose from. See what happens in the Spring.
