K, so UCSB is my ideal dream school, beatiful location, great education, kids that are the same as I am.. I was hoping to get some insight from other people other than myself on what you think my chances of getting in are..

Freshman year: Went to a public school and got about a 2.6-3.0 gpa

Spohmore year: Moved to STL an enrolled in a very prestigous private jesuit school whose main focus is college and very challenging cirreculum and just a hard school in general. Didnt do to hot because of the transition moving from my lifetime home an the jump from public school to private school. Got about a 2.0 for the year :/

Junior Year: Settled in an chilled out decided I need to bust my arse for the year for college so because of that I currently have a 4.3 gpa over double from the year before. Im really hoping that they notice this jump in gpa and see the determination to get better an get my stuff together.

Havent take the ACT/SAT yet but after several practice tests my average ACT score is about a 28-31

Extra Cirriculars: 20 hours of Volunteer work Sophmore year
100+ Volunteer Hours Junior Year
50 Volunteer hours Senior Year
Varsity Basketball
Varsity Soccer
Soccer Coach for lil kids

So from all this ANY insight and predcitions would be greatly appreciated thank you :)

UC admissions follow the numbers very closely. Your GPA is quite low, so get a good SAT/ACT score to make them think you’re just an undiscovered genius (that, of course, coupled with the improvement in GPA).

You need to calculate your UC GPA. The formula is on the UC Pathways website. It includes only soph and jr. years and limits weighted classes. The average UC GPA is a 4.0 at UCSB.

If you are out of state, also understand there is no financial aid past the Federal if you qualify, and the cost is about $48K per year with many taking more than 4 years to graduate.

STL is Seattle? You need something like a 3.4 to apply to a UC from out of state, using sophomore and junior grades, with only the AP’s getting an extra point. I’m guessing you are currently a junior, and have a junior year GPA of 4 plus, maybe 4 weeks into the school year? Be sure to check out the academic requirements, as the arts one frequently trips people up.

Oh wait! I see you mentioned your senior year volunteer hours, so mabye that means you are a senior and applying this year.

I’m guessing you know they have a great soccer team. My son would love to go and play there, but he was in the same GPA situation as you. He is a junior, so I can still hope he turns it around like you did! Still, I think UCSB will be off the table for him

Your average GPA and SAT/ACT score needs to be higher than the students in CA. That being said, in order to evaluate your chance, your overall GPA (10th and 11th grade combined) is needes. UC does not look at 10th and 11th grades separately. Only the combined GPA is used for admission.
