Schools:

UC Riverside
SDSU (safety)

any other recommendations on which schools I should go for?

Best bet would be to score high.

UCSD: reach
UCR: slight reach - match
SDSU: safe match - safety

What's your UC GPA?

read the pst kd, can't determine UC GPA w/o 11th grades, just 10th UC GPA wud be pointless...I still need to know if you are in college/high school/whatev...

I would forget about UCSD. No offense, but their average admit had an SAT of around 1950, and a UC GPA of 4.06.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/camp_profiles_ucsd.html

Top So Cal schools like UCSD and UCLA are not realistic. You have a solid GPA and excellent class ranking. SDSU is a match to safe match. UC Riverside should also be a match. If you are intent on staying in So Cal (if so, i cant blaim you, i love it here) then also look at CSULB as another safe match school. You could also look at UCI and UCSB, which are not as competitive as UCSD or UCLA. However, your GPA seems too low for UCI and UCSB and your SAT's would likely have to go up around a 150 points to be competitve. However you never know. Work hard on getting those SAT's up and get good grades. Best of luck.

EDIT: I was chancing you off your weighted GPA of 3.66. However, after a second glance at your post, i realized that you were including your freshmen grades. For UC schools, they dont consider your freshmen grades. Sophmore and Junior are what they compute when considering you for admission. While UCSD and UCLA are still likely not realistic, your chances could be higher with your Soph/Jun years UC GPA than with your posted GPA of 3.66. This may, if you get your SAT's up, bring into play UCI and UCSB. If you could compute your UC GPA and post it for me, i could give you better odds for admissions to the schools you listed and some others.

GPA that you posted is too low for most UCs without excellent SATs. SDSU is getting more competitive to get into as well, but if you score in the 1700s (or maybe not quite that high, but around there) on the SAT and bring your GPA up a bit, you should be fine. You may also want to check out CSU Long Beach (great reputation and a fun school from what I've heard) or CSU Fullerton, which also has solid programs. Both are located in SoCal, and would probably be safeties for you. Best of Luck!

CSUF would be a safety. but i dont think CSULB nor SDSU are safeties for the poster if you are using the 1600 or so SAT and 3.66 weighted GPA. More like a safe match to CSULB and match for SDSU. Remember, SDSU is the second most competitive CSU and CSULB is the third most competitive CSU (both behind Cal Poly SLO). They have gotten significantly more competitive over the past 5 or so years.

I havent even taken my SATs yet, im only using the projected score from my PSAT (which I did zero studying for since I was stressed out on other things). I'm really motivated to get great SAT scores on my first try. I also have my whole junior year ahead of me with those 3 AP classes. I'm working hard to do good in those upcoming classes which will hopefully raise my GPA up a bit.

Thanks for the replies though!

Edit: I'm also trying to get into one of the UC schools through the ELC program (top four percent). Last I checked I was at 4.3%. That was from my report card after Sophomore year.

Yeah, I'd say your best bet on getting into a UC is through ELC... just make sure to get good grades ur junior year (I'm also ELC, wondering where I will get into...)

Probably a low UC, even through ELC. Berkeley, UCSD, and UCLA are virtually out with those projected SATs and GPA. possibly lower-tier ones though if GPA improves.

The OP currently doesn't qualify for ELC right now. If his/her junior year grades were very high and he/she jumped a few spots, then he/she'd qualify for ELC (top 4%). At UCSD, the ELC admit rate was around 90%.

True, but most elc's don't have a 3.6 weighted gpa either. at our school, the last person w/in the top 4% has around a 3.9 weighted.

Is class rank based one your GPA from 10th-11th or is it based on an accumulated GPA throughout high school?

You posted your grades for your freshman year and sophomore year--but the sophomore year is much better than freshman year--so if the junior year is equivalent UCR is an safe match to match (current UC GPA is around a 3.8)

Like ucchris and others said--you need to pick up your grades a lot in the academic subjects (and start taking your AP courses) to have any shot at UCSD--but it's still early--and you got a lot of B pluses in your sophomore year. So change those B pluses to As (or even A minuses) and you will have a good chance at the higher UCs (like UCSD)--and definitely at the mid UCs (Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara) and the lower UCs (Riverside, Santa Cruz, Merced).

P.S. If you keep up your grades to this point, you will need at least a 2100 SAT to get into UCSD, and a 1750 for UCR. Make the grades better, and these numbers drop to around 1970 and 1600, respectively. However, I think there is a chance you will be given some leeway based upon your family's situation and your recent move to California.

Good luck to you--and welcome to the United States.

Actually, I was born in San Diego, then when I was around 6-7 my dad got stationed overseas. I've lived overseas my past ten years. I dont know if that will count for anything though, hahah.

You pretty much summed up my plan for my junior year; work my butt off in those classes+the SATs and hope for the best.
