GPA: 4.12 ucgpa (well in the top 10% at school, just acredited blue ribbon too)
SAT: 600 reading, 790 math, 620 writing (2010 total)
SATII: Chem 750, Math IIC <pending> (let’s just assume 700…)
AP’s: 5 comp sci, 5 calc ab, 5 stat, 4 chem, 3 us history</pending>

EC’s/Awards/Other: Passed AMC 12 in 10th grade, took the AIME. Worked at local television (for 3 years now). Involved in many math/science clubs at school (2-3 years). Play piano. etc etc lol… I also take math classes at a community college because ive finished what my high school offers…

I’m planning to apply as an EE major… what do you think my chances are?

If I apply as undecided and get in, can I transfer into EE?

I would have to say match. Your GPA is relatively strong, but I think for UCLA and Cal your SAT score may be a bit under par, as well as your predicted score of 700 for your IIC.

Actually, I take that back - UCSD is probably pretty guaranteed for you. But I wouldn't say by any means that UCLA or Cal are guarantees. They are match/semi-reaches, I think.

I would say 85% chance of getting into UCSD. I agree that you could get into UCLA or Berkeley. Keep in mind that if you apply for Berkeley engineering it's tougher than the regular Berkeley admissions.

no dont do that. i am 100% sure that it is much harder to apply to the school of engineering in college. your grades must be TOP. so i'd say still go for the engineering spot, but alternate major do undeclared or whatever you want.

yes you absolutely can later go into electrical engineering junior year. however, it will be tough because your grades must be extremeley good. this is because the majors are already in priority for those who already are accepted and those who also want to squeeze into EE. make sure your grades are very good, and getting into the EE program will be simple for you.

it definitely would help, however, everybody(i mean alot of people) gets 800 on math2. so i'd say it would help between a little and a lot. For engineering, they mainly look at the math and science courses you've taken and your gpa.

damnit... my estimate was off... i got a 750 on the math level 2 sat subject test.... same as my chem score... not too low, but not an 800 either!!!

now that you have all my info can you please give my a guess on if ill get into UCSD in an open major? (non impacted)

THANKS

P.S. - does ucsd take essays into consideration as much as UCLA and Cal do?
