Chances at UF with low Test Scores, but everything else really good?

2010 UF FRESHMAN PROFILE: <a href="http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html</a>
***I have a 4.19/4.2 UF GPA and a really good essay (I actually think it's awesome heh, worked extremely hard on it, The grammar is near perfect, it flows well, the reader gets the overall impression).
3 AP Classes, AP Envi, Psych, Human Geo

***Any programs or activities that helped you prepare for higher education?

For one summer, I sold wrist bands with the St. Jude's logo on them to help raise money for cancer research. I did this because a family friend lost their seven-year-old daughter to brain cancer.

Extracurricular activities:

I was in the following clubs in high school: National Honor Society (10th-12th), Mu Alpha Theta (10th-12th), Science Club (10th), Science Honor Society (11th-12th), Spanish Honor Society (10th).

Two years Varsity Tennis 9th and 10th. I plan on playing again this year (12th grade). I played 10 hours per week between practice and matches.

Community service: I did volunteer work at St Joseph's Hospital Tampa FL in the cardiac unit for two summers (over 100 hours) Cardiac Admissions and Recovery, working/volunteering in the gift shop, and at the Cardiac West Wing. I enjoyed helping out in the hospital, cleaning up, filing, putting away beds, providing food and drinks to the patients, escorting recovered patients in a wheelchair (mandatory for all patients) to their loved ones, and meeting the staff, the doctors, and patients in the hospital.
Having this experience helped me learn what having a job in the hospital would be like and inspired me to consider a career in medicine.

Volunteering in the hospital gift shop gave me experience of working in a small business retailer/establishment, which will be useful in the future.

I also did community service in and after school (helping out in the library, assisting and helping teachers in a classroom).

Additional Information: During my Junior year, I became ill and had to drop out of my current classes at the time and take homebound courses (which didn't offer honors or AP courses), and 4 honors courses on FLVS. Before all of this, I was in 4 APs and 3 honors, but unfortunately I became sick a few weeks before the semester ended/exams. 1st quarter of these grades I received all A's. I had no time to take previous or new AP courses because by the time treatment ended, I wouldn't have them complete in time for the AP exams. I am currently finishing up pre-calc honors on FLVS, a course I was in last year. I am back this year to a normal schedule of a mixture of electives, honors, and AP Courses.

On another note, I attended summer tennis camp at UF last year, and I got a general feel for the school by exploring the campus and living in the dorms. I have to say I fell in love with the school, and I'm determined to get in.

23 ACT, but I'm taking the SAT next saturday and I think the lowest I'll get is an 1800 since I have been taking practice tests and been scoring very well, I just might suck at ACT and be good at SAT

If you get 1800+, you look like a good candidate for UF.

Metal - have you confirmed with UF whether they will get the Dec. 4th scores in time to consider them or not?

Yes, they will get them a few days before the deadline. Scores are released on Dec. 21, the deadline is the 31st.

Also, use the freshman profile for chances, they gave me some hope. :P

I screwed myself over by only doing the ACT heh. It looks like I’m a better candidate for SAT.

Also, I forgot to say I took mostly honors courses besides spanish which had to be reg. (only level they offered). Along with AP’s I’m doing and 1 freshman year.

Metal - the scores are released to the students on the 21st. College board doesn’t report them electronically until the 27th to UF. Then UF apparantly has to get the scores associated with your file, and that is done manually. Someone during the week between Christmas and New Years when school is not in session has to be available to do that. It is my understanding that they will not guarantee that this will happen in time and in fact, will tell you that it seldom does.

My advice to you - I would check on the 28th and see if the Dec scores are in your online file. If not, I would call and ask very nicely to have them put in your file. I would not count on it just happening without verifying it.

@Atacom
Thank you. I definitely will. My father called UF Admissions and collegeboard and they both said the score would be in, but I will do exactly what you said to make sure.

bump bump bump

derp… …

Metal - UF Admissions has posted on their web site that the office is closed from 12/24 - 1/2 and will reopen 1/3. I would call college board and confirm if the soonest they report the scores to UF is Dec. 27th or if they can be sent to UF by Dec. 23rd. Then call UF and see what they say.

yea I think they arent going to get the scores chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1041167-chance-me-i-will-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

/bump-----
Also if I somehow got in the 1600 or 1700 area would my chances stil be bad?

I mean if I somehow scored in the 1600-1799 area.

chances look pretty strong with an 1800+

btw how did you find out your UF gpa? Did you just calculate it yourself?

Yeah. I calculated it myself based on their scale and what classes they use to calculate it.
