Hello all,
Just wondering what my son’s chances at UF would be with these credentials:

He is out of state: PA
High School stopped doing class rank but was 15 out of 300 as the time they stopped. Top 5%.
Not in band, choir, etc but is in a couple academic teams (Envirothon, Physics Olympics)
Just to add a few details to the above post…
When calculating his UF GPA I erred. It is actually 4.647 ( I left out an AP class when doing the calcs)
I also noticed some people posting posted the AP classes taken so here they are:
AP (all As or better):
Statistics
Physics I
Physics C
US History
Biology
AP - (will take Senior Year)
Enironmental Science
Economics
Spanish
Calculus BC
Thanks for looking.
Looks like a solid applicant to me!
UF Holistic admission weights about 50% of the application based on academics and 50% based on nonacademic items. See table C7 in the common data set.

On academics, what’s most important is your GPA, class rigor, and application essay (this essay is IMPORTANT), while ACT/SAT is not as important.

His GPA and class rigor look great. Make sure he puts some work into that essay! He may want to re-take the SAT, UF will superscore his SAT scores. They want the final SAT scores by the end of December (the application is due on Nov 1’st).
The other items are nonacademic. Most importantly are extracurricular activities, and volunteer work (see table C7). Also important is work experience. UF likes to see a commitment to ECs, etc. It’s better to be committed to a few, than spend little time on a lot.
His EC’s look Ok. This would be a good summer to add to them, either by working on some ECs’ (they do not have to be school related), doing volunteer work, or even just working a summer job.
Not as important as ECs, etc, but still considered is the level of applicant’s interest. So going to UF and taking an admissions tour is a plus.
Good Luck!
Thanks, Gator88NE!
What I didn’t mention was that he volunteers for the local Little League umpiring and doing the snack bar. He is also planning on getting a job over the summer.
He re-took the SAT this past Saturday and will again on June 3. We are hoping for 40 more points somewhere to get to that 1400.
His academic teams take up a lot of time every week after school and some weekends.
We did tour the campus in early April and he loved it.
Update - just received May’s SAT score = 1430.
Update - Received his June SAT scores - Superscore is now 1440
