Hi everyone, I’m currently a senior in HS looking to apply to UofI’s business program. I know it’s one of the more selective majors, so I was wondering what you guys though of my chances.
White/Male/In-state
GPA: 4.05 W
ACT: 31
SAT: 1400
7 APS
Huge upward trend in grades from mostly B’s Freshman year to straight A’s junior year (with tougher schedule)
EC’s are solid (not outstanding) with some business related
Your test scores are in range. UIUC considers EC’s, but the “numbers” have greater weight. If you’re in the top 10% of your class, I’d say you’re in good shape.
UIUC doesn’t “unweight” your GPA…also, I disagree about the rule of thumb about being in “top 10%” of class…from a school like yours, it sounds like, a student who isn’t top 10% could have stats that would be top of class at a school with a different structure and profile, which is one reason such schools stopped ranking YEARS ago. If you notice, Illinois stopped using admissions stats stating incoming students’ high school ranks-so many schools don’t rank anymore. Also there has been a change in admissions in the last few cycles…try to get a handle on who is getting in. Illinois states that it has a holistic admissions approach. So, students with perfect stats aren’t guaranteed admissions to the most competitive majors, and there isn’t a bright line for rejection, either. Really vet the application to the extreme, and make your best shot at it. Good luck!
