Chances at UK and Canadian Schools?

I am from the United States and I would like to apply to these UK and Canadian schools:

UK: University of St Andrews
University of Edinburgh
University of Aberdeen

Canada: McGill

My SATs are: 770 CR, 670 M, 650 W
SAT IIs: Spanish 680, US History 790
APs: English Lang 5, US History 5
GPA: 4.33 (weighted) 3rd in class of 220
Senior year classes: AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Stat, AP US Gov, highest level spanish (though not officially called AP.. I'm going to take the test), french II (only non weighted class)

Im also pretty sure that UK and Canadian universities dont care about ECs..?

what are my chances at gaining admission (or conditional/unconditional admission to UK schools..)???

thanks ( :

also what about:
U British Colombia?
Queens?

What is your unweighted GPA? What is your intended major?

I would call McGill and UBC reaches. Your SATs aren’t that high and your record isn’t that rigorous. The good news is that senior year grades make a huge difference at UBC (and possibly at McGill too… I’d have to check), so you stand a better chance if you can pull off As in all your senior APs.

You seem to be under the impression that your weighted GPA matters. It doesn’t. Most universities have their own weighting schemes. Just take challenging courses (APs are good) and do well in them.

You are correct that your ECs don’t much matter.

my unweighted gpa is around 4.23 of 4.33
and in terms of a “rigorous record” are you talking about the only 2 APs that I have taken? because those were the only APs offered to juniors at my school, and no APs were offered to underclassmen. However I have taken the most advanced courses possible throughout high school…even though many have not been APs (as they are fairly new to my school system)
Would the canadian schools take into consideration the school profile, and what is availible to the students?

I would like to major in International studies + foreign language with a minor (or joint major) in environmental science/conservation (as a BA or BS&BA)-this is availible at mcgill

^ Your school screwed you over. I assume that the Canadian schools will look at what your school offered, but it might be a good idea to write the admissions office letting them know that you had a limited selection. DO NOT STRESS over this - it will either work out, or it won’t. The best thing you can do is make sure that both McGill and UBC know the situation at your school (if they routinely accept students from your school, they may know anyway). Even if they don’t, two APs is probably JUST FINE for junior year. I’m not worried about your admission chances there; just about the amount of learning your school cheated you out of by limiting enrollment in advanced classes.

Why is 4.33 the highest unweighted GPA?

Anyway, I think you’re okay. Just try to kill your senior year classes and get As. I think you stand a fine chance.

McGill is not super selective. In terms of selectivity it is probably slightly easier then Michigan to gain entrance.

It recommends having a couple Subject Tests in range of 600-650, SAT scores of a least 1800 or ACT 28.

thanks guys!
yes…i will certainly let those universities know of my school’s course offerings
and a 4.33 = A+ unweighted (i dont know why?)

also does anyone know what the policies are on taking the SATs more than once for these schools…do they take the best scores from each?
