<p>I have a weighted GPA of 3.52 and my SAT scores are Reading - 480, Math - 490 and Writing - 470. My SAT scores clearly do not match my GPA at all but I have taken some honors classes throughout my high school career. I have played sports outside of school and worked every year during the summer. Also, I want to major in economics.</p>

<p>My guess is that it could go either way depending on what the applicant pool is like, but I have no inside information. Just don’t make it the only school you apply to.</p>
<p>Why not take the SAT again? Your scores will likely go up.</p>
<p>I was at a U Mass admissions event last spring. As of that date, U Mass was not counting the writing portion of the SAT. I think they said that their average SAT score was around 1100. Your GPA sounds like it is in their range, but if I was you, I’d try to get my SAT score up. </p>
<p>If your school uses Naviance, you should be able to see what the scattergram is for kids from your school.</p>

<p>@onandupward: I’d just like to say that umass isnt that hard to get into. it is difficult but not as much as the stats would imply. A lot of students apply as safeties, the same kids applying to harvard yale MIT etc. at my in state school everyone with.a 3.1 and at least an 1100 m+cr gets in. Ill post my graph later though if the OP would like.</p>

<p>I believe that reported stats are only for those that actually opt to attend, which would mean the stats of the all those accepted must be higher since it includes the ones that decide to go elsewhere. There isn’t a contradiction between 1100 being the lowest safe score and 1189 being the average score.</p>
<p>@notakid: I would agree but the word they use is admitted not enrolled. Now as a student with subpar grades in high school I am no expert. But im just saying that with the large number of acceptances stats dont seem to tell the full story</p>
<p>I’m an international student who just got accepted to UMass Amherst for the fall semester 2012, so i’m talking from experience. your GPA sounds good but your SAT scores are way too low man. I got in with a 1630…Math-610 CR-470 Writing-550…even though my SATs weren’t that great, i believe the other aspects of my application were strong enough to get me in. I wrote the IELTS exam and received a score of 7 out of 9 and i think that helped as well…so i’d say that you should definitely take the SATs again and try to aim for a 1700/1800 or thereabout to be improve upon your chances.
But to be honest, i don’t think it’s that much of a difficult school to get into. I virtually see anyone with a B/C minimum average in high school and a minimum score of 1120 on the SATs (Math+CR combined) getting in.</p>
