Hello!
I am currently an anxiety filled senior that is completely worried about getting into my target and dream school, umass amherst.
My current GPA is 3.55 weighted (Have taken 5 AP classes over the course of highschool, honors in all the rest.) and my SAT scores are 600 in writing, 650 in math and 570 in CR.
If it helps i plan on going into the medical/biology field.
My ECs include debate club, varsity math team, community service and bowling.
My only extreme worry is that my senior year grades haven't been that good as i've been very overwhelmed (75 in both pre-cal and AP physics while 85 in both AP Lit and AP Psych).

Do you honestly think I have a good chance of getting in? :( I'm so absolutely worried it isn't even funny.

ps: If i'm doing something wrong i apologize! first time using this website.

The first question is: Do you live in Massachusetts? Chances are much higher if it’s your state school. (I live in MA and I’m applying there AND my sister goes there now)
Second question: How did you APs go?
Third question: Why do you have to be so stressed Everything will work out great. I already got deferred from my top choice, but I’ve learned to move forth and work my hardest without killing myself.

But otherwise…
Looking at my own school’s stats, the mean accepted weighted GPA is a 3.75 and the SAT is 2040. So you’re a little low on those parts. But then again I go to a reallllyyy competitive school, so your chances are better than if you were here. Even then, on the scattergram, you fit in on acceptances (it’s just that so many students apply there, the average is thrown upwards).

However, caveat emptor: medicine and biology are always competitive courses, especially where there is a good program like UMass.

Debate, math, and community service look great. However, your senior grades can nip you in the butt if you bite off more than you can chew. But they can also see that you are taking challenging courses and they’ll like that.

Overall, just apply! You’ll do great, no matter what! And if you don’t get in (which I think is unlikely), then there are amazing schools out there that really want you!

Thank you so much for the kind words and boost in confidence
I do live in state btw. I’ve gotten two qualifying scores in the two ap classes I’ve completed so far (AP Stats and AP English language, also getting a 90 in each as a class grade)

You should also apply to UMass Lowell. They have a great biology program. The school isn’t what it used to be and a lot of kids who would have previously attended UMass Amherst are now in UMass Lowell. The school has been upgraded to Division 1 sports and they have added 7 new buildings in the past year. Maybe you should check them out.
