Hey I applied to UMass in early January and still haven't heard back. I've emailed admissions twice and just keep getting the same "14% increase in applicants..it's getting tough.. you'll recieve your decision soon."

So what does everyone (especially alumni) think??
Thanks!

you’re in. its not very hard to get in so you’re easily in

Really? I’m soooo nervous right now about it. I really messed up my apps and only got into one other school - my safety, Western Michigan. They accepted 71% last year, but it went down a few months ago to 66%.

..so any other opinions? i’m making myself insane..

I think you will probably get in, but thats mainly due to your very strong EC’s.

Without them you wouldnt be in, your SATs are low and GPA is lower than their average. (3.4)

Whats your major going to be? You won’t be accepted to engineering and I highly doubt you would get into business, anything else you have a promising shot.

drama/theatre .. stage managing

yeah, I’m in UMass Amherst right now, and I really think you’ll get in

Apparently if you are a Massachusetts resident and apply to Umass as long as you have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA they can not and will not look at your SAT scores. My daughter has not heard either and she applied in September. Got the same answer when I called Admissions that she would hear in a couple of weeks which would bring us to next week. They do not give you much time seeing where deposits are due May 1st.

The problem is, I live in New York… or else all would be great!
I attended Drum Major Academy at UMass this past summer and plan on doing color guard (marching band). Does anyone know how much they consider that? I know there were boxes to check off on the application if you were interested in band and if you went to DMA. And then I got the email from George N. Parks about interest level. Does anyone know how much they actually consider that?

Today I wrote an email to GNP, as advised by the Arts in Education director, about my admission. Hopefully that will help me.

Amherst is really hard lol…

in my school you need around a 95 average and a 2230 to even be considered… and then you could still be rejected

Williams is also very hard as there is no scale for it

do you mean amherst college? they’re def out of my reach. but i applied to university of massachusetts in amherst. but hey, if you go to umass you can take classes at amherst college and the other way around!

My friend is a theater major at UMass Amherst, and she loves it!

tomackze i think you’re confused. lol.

yea tomackze has it mixed up - the University of Dartmouth and the University of MA at Amherst are pretty easy to get into …Dartmouth College and Amherst College on the other hand are real hardcores.

burnitblue, how were your theater friend’s grades and sats, etc?

ah i’m sorry haha :)

I saw Amherst and instantly thought Amherst College the liberal arts school

haha no prob! know anything about UMASS amherst admissions?

I had this situation last year. Well over-qualified for the school but I didn’t hear till April 20th, was wait-listed with guaranteed admission for Spring '08. I’m pretty sure that happened to everyone who was qualified but did not hear till almost May.

Also, I am in-state.

My best friend who’s GPA is about the same as mine but who has much less extra curriculars and such got wait-listed. She found out last night. I also spoke to our band director at school today and he asked if she told me and I said that she did. He works at Drum Major Academy at UMass during the summer each year so he has some connections. He found out that my friend and I were on some sort of admissions list of people who were either going to be accepted or wait-listed and called on behaf of us last week. I really need to hear all the details from him, but I hope my extra curriculars and essay really stand out. And of course the phone call…

well kids…
waitlisted.
:(
