Chances at UMass -- Transfer

I'm a senior in high school in michigan, i'm going BGSU next year but I'm not too interested in staying (i plan on transferring after freshman year). I'm majoring in Journalism with a minor in either film theory and criticism or creative writing.
High School GPA - ~3.0, i wasn't too motivated through out high school and took a lot of classes i didn't want to take (chemistry, adv. chemistry, AP biology, etc...) But, i currently have a 3.5.
ACT (I didn't do that well) Engl. 24, Math. 24, Sci. 20, Reading 20, Writing 12/12.

If I keep around a 3 point freshman year will it make up for my sub-par ACT scores?

anyone? bump

you could probably get into Umass now, just make sure you keep your grades up.

I was going to apply but i thought i would be hindered by my lack of ECs (editor of the newspaper and varsity hockey was all i had)

if you can apply now, you should, umass isnt that hard to get into.

should i retake the ACT?

help please, bump

For transfers, they don't care that much about how you did in high school. They primarily care about your gpa in college. Try to work on getting some good recs from professors at your college. When you get ready to transfer, seek out advice from your college advisors at your school. The following quotes are from:
<a href="http://www.umass.edu/admissions/application_process/Transfer_Students/%5B/url%5D">http://www.umass.edu/admissions/application_process/Transfer_Students/</a></p>

"Transfer students make up nearly a third of the undergraduate student body at UMass Amherst"

"The primary criterion for transfer admission is the quality of your academic record. UMass Amherst will also consider the number of transfer credits, prerequisite coursework, type of completed courses, consistency of grades, and available space. In addition to your college coursework, your high school record (or GED scores) and SAT or ACT scores will be evaluated if you present fewer than 27 credits when you apply."
