Do I have a decent shot at getting in for early action?
Or should I wait to get my SATs up and reapply for regular decision?
Also, should I submit my current AP and IB scores (4 on math and chemistry SL for IB and 3 on european history and statistics AP)

Do not wait and apply for regular decision. That’s a really good way to get rejected or deffered to spring if you’re on the fence.
If you want any chance at anything more than just admission, you need to apply by the early date.

A 3.68 with a full IB schedule and some APs is def. above average for Maryland.

Your SATs are weak relative to your GPA and courseload, but they are not “out of the ballpark” for MD in any sense.

Your ECs are your major weakness. Do you have any hobbies you devoted a lot of time to? Such as playing an instrument/being in a band, making movies, taking photos, drawing, whatever? Those would look just as good as organized participation in school activities. But, thankfully for you, ECs are the least important part of the app.

However, if you wait to apply regular, things could be worse. It’s much harder to gain admission in the regular pool. So, apply now!! You can send updated scores when they arrive to supplement your app…but don’t let your whole app wait on the scores. I think you have a good chance if you can apply now and figure out a way to include some of your hobbies/personality in the app.

The scores are not necessary…I was not of the school that a 3 was particularly impressive so I don’t see why you would send that. I don’t know what a 4 on an IB exam correlates to.

Apply early. Maryland is a numbers oriented school and your numbers are fine. Hnors is probably not going to happen, but the regular university is most likely an IN.

APPLY EARLY!!! I cannot stress this enough. My friend, who had great stats, applied on the regular deadline (extenuating circumstances; she never foresaw herself going to CP), and got in second semester. Your SATs are a little low, but I predict that you should be in. Absolute worst case scenario you get in spring semester.

Thanks everyone for the great responses! Definitely going to put more out of school ECs that I think I can use and go ahead and submit my application after finishing my essays. Just two more questions:

After I apply for early action, can I submit my November 6th upcoming SAT scores, or would they not be considered for early action admission decision?

One of the essays is “Select your own book for the First Year Book program and tell us why you would want to share it with your classmates in the incoming class. Why does this book have personal meaning to you?”

I just realized that I wrote my essay choosing a PLAY. Such as if I wrote it on recommending Antigone or Hamlet. Do I have to rewrite my essay? Or should I just reference it as a literary work (it is not a well known play).

From dictionary.com, the 8th definition of “book” is: a script or story for a play.

The first definition: a written or printed work of fiction or nonfiction, usually on sheets of paper fastened or bound together within covers.

Book it appears is more of a medium than a literary term denoting type of story i.e. as novel or play do. So, to be playing it perfectly safe, said play would have had to have been read out of a book or seen in sheet form, not watched on stage or screen. If that applies, then no, you don’t have to rewrite your essay :p

And yes, submit your Nov. 6th SAT scores, definitely. They may or may not have already made a decision on your app by the time they arrive, but it can’t hurt to send 'em. If you want to be perfectly sure they will count just call admissions and ask.

Oh, you get your scores back Nov. 23…yeah, most likely not. I wasn’t sure how long it took. MD was the first acceptance I had in hand…it was in December I think, so I thought it was cutting it close.

If you have the scores sent automatically to Maryland, they’ll have them before the 23rd.

(I’m pretty sure. I know AP scores get there first. I got my senior year AP scores from my unofficial transcript weeks before they were mailed to me)
