Chances at Umich, Carnegie Mellon, Harvey Mudd...

and anyone want to suggest some really good engineering schools?</p>

<p>i am a junior at a public school in NY state that ranked within the top 40(U.S. News)</p>

<p>SAT: took but I am not sending
ACT: 34; English: 34, Math: 35, Reading: 35, Science: 33
GPA: 94.5? approximately (excluding freshmen year it is about 97.5)
rank: school does not rank
SATII: Bio M(took as freshmen): 740 and i will be taking chem & mathII predicting 750-800
APs: taking Chem, Comp. Sci., and APUSH next week, i predict chem: 4, comp sci: 5, APUSH: 4-5.</p>

<p>jr year:
AP chem, APUSH, APCS, honors english, honors physics, honors pre-calc</p>

<p>next year
AP Physics, AP Stats, AP Calc BC, AP macroeconomics, honors english, honors Spanish 4, government</p>

<p>ECs
Varsity crew 4 seasons, Internship at wayne state university over summer, training to acquire private pilots license (Should have before i apply), Columbia University Science Honors Program (Very selective), 100+ hours community service doing many different things, rock climbing, outdoor leadership courses, spending 5 weeks doing community service in Tanzania this summer. (maybe more i can't think of???)</p>

<p>i have already written my common app essay i think it is pretty good, but what i think could be very different from what someone else thinks. My recs will be great because i am very close with my guidance counselor and teachers.</p>

<p>You have a pretty good shot at UMich, since they don’t take in freshman year GPA.</p>

<p>UIllinois is a better chance that UMich I believe, so a match.</p>

<p>Carnegie Mellon is a low reach/high match</p>

<p>I’d say you’re in at the state schools and you probably have a shot at CM. Harvey Mudd is a bit of a stretch, but hopefully w/ your ACTs, some of the more interesting Ec’s, and a GREAT essay you might have a shot. I’m not sure about Stanford, if you portray yourself well in the application and pull off another excellent essay I can definitely see you there (mostly because Stanford is one of the more holistic schools). The only problem being that you obviously have a big interest in engineering but you haven’t done much to back it up besides the pilots license (and “maybe” having it by applications wont cut it). And the other being that you’re from an overrepresented region. I can definitely see you with a good shot at alll of them though.</p>
