Reach: Umich ross preferred, UChicago, Emory
Match: Boston College
Safety: Indiana (Kelley), Michigan State

I'm interested in business. I thought up of many other matches/safeties, but in the end if I don't get into ross or stern, I'm probably going to MSU or Indiana and transfer after a year. I'm applying to Ross preferred even though I probably won't get in to show my interest in michigan. I'm applying in august for michigan (ie: early as possible)

Chances?

Michigan does not factor in Freshmen year. So your Michigan GPA is more like 3.45. That still low, but better than 3.3. Your ACT is excellent. I'd say you are a solid match, but one never knows. Apply as early as you can.

The positive trend and ACT help you a lot, but Michigan just places SO MUCH emphasis on GPA that nobody ever really knows.

Your right. As a public school I realized that UofM puts a big emphasis on grades, and my test scores won't help me as much as they would for, say smaller private schools. Every year admissions seems to get more and more...unpredictable.

I just REALLY pray I get deferred first and not rejected. I hope pulling excellent grades (3.8-4.0) as a senior (4-5 AP's senior year), sending in some supplementary materials (retired UofM professors/alumni writing on my behalf), and constantly bugging the adcoms :), will "tip" me over the edge.

Would applying to the school of nursing then transferring after a year help me at all?

I know a kid who did that. He got in very quickly. But in the end, I think he decided to attend Wayne State with a full-ride.

I wouldn't bother with trying to transfer from another school to Ross. I saw in the class profile that 96% of the class was from LSA, Engineering, etc. So not much room for transfers.

I'm going to have to read up on that. Nursing seems kinda risky though...what if I can't transfer? I don't want to be stuck in nursing, haha.

I guess only thing to do is to get the best grades possible until application time and apply eaaarly.

Do not apply to the school of nursing unless you are sincerely interested in being a nurse. If you are not, it makes no sense and the chances of the admissions folks figuring it out are high. Play it straight - life works better that way.

agreed. Sounded like a good way to increase my chances but when I actually thought about it, it sounded stupid. I'm going to apply to ross to show interest, but I will be ecstatic if I get into LSA

to show interest in what? Are you actually interested in business? It certainly won't help your LSA chances to "show interest". Too many people willing to compromise integrity for admission these days...applying to nursing? Really? Weak. Real weak.

If it makes you feel any better Badkarma89 I got into LSA this year w/a 26act and 3.4gpa and I come from a low income family too. Also I don't have nearly close to all the accolades you've received and my h.s. transcript showed a decreasing trend too. I also had a friend who got into music w/a 23act and 3.7gpa and another at engineering w/30 act and 3.3 gpa. So keep your hopes up.

Thanks

Chibears, I totally agree. If you look at my extracurriculars, business is my passion. That is why applying to Ross. When I say that I want to "show interest" I mean to say that I want to show Umich that they are my #1 choice, and that I'm very interested in business. I'm sorry I thought about applying to nursing, I'm not like that.

Bleeble, thats heartening. :)
