Passion in technology: Built my own computer

Phew long post. My dream colleges were Cornell, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon and Rice, however I do not think I should even apply to these.

The schools that I will have to put 100% effort into the apps would be University of Washington, University of Michigan, and Purdue. These will be my main priority.

My other schools will be Georgia Tech, Rensselaer Polytech Ins., WSU, U. Illinois-Urbana, Texas A and M, ASU, U of Texas -Austin. These will be my safe schools/lesser priority.

Any thoughts are much appreciated, I am used to my parents telling me I won't get in anywhere so don't hesitate to be honest. Thanks!

University of Washington - safety
University of Michigan - reach (they value GPA a lot)
Purdue - match/safety
Georgia Tech - match/reach
Rensselaer Polytech Ins. - match
WSU - safety
U. Illinois-Urbana - match / reach
Texas A and M - match
ASU - safety
U of Texas -Austin - match

U of Texas will NOT be a match, it'll be a slight reach / reach. He is out of state and only <10% of U of Texas students are from OOS so competition will be stiff

Thanks for the replies. One more thing, should I even bother applying to my very very very high reach colleges such as Cornell and Rice?

For UMich.
You're out of state which makes it tougher, and your GPA does not look good UW.
If you could recalculate a new GPA with your IB courses out of 5 instead of 4 that will most likely be the GPA that Michigan looks at. Though the fact that you only have 2 IB test scores makes me doubt how serious those IB courses were.
My rought estimate of that new GPA @3.6 is still quite low though.

I think it will be quite hard for you to get in, since there's nothing much else that's disctinctive

SAT scores are alright, they could be higher especially if you want to get into those dream schools.

Among your dream schools, I would rule out Columbia definitely, Cornell almost definitely, and the other two you'll be on a very slender line of hope. You better have phenomenally good essays and recs.

And sorry to be cruel, but please don't list building your own computer as demonstration of a passion for technology. Nowadays that's quite unremarkable.

No thats no problem, better to know now then later. The problem with the 2 IB tests is that as a junior it is impossible to take the HL tests, thus i was limited to only those 2 tests.

IBs are out of 7. Your Math is ok but Chemistry is TERRIBLE. Really. A 3 on Chemistry SL is downright awful. Is your English A1 HL? If it is and if you get a 5 that is really good

I don't want to sound defensive here, but that Chemistry grade will get erased because I am taking Chemsitry HL. At that time however, The HL class was undecided, and when it was confirmed it was too late to opt out of the test. Thus all my efforts went into the Math test.

My English is HL level.

Georgia Tech - match
