I would really like to go to UMich...what are my chances considering that they don't count freshman year grades?

its looking good. Maybe a weak AP background for going to a #1 state high school but sat 1 is strong and sat 2s have promise. nice extracurricularz. I say u have a good shot and if ur a minority.....or even if ur not, shoot for a couple gamble schools.

I don't think uof Mich is all that much of a reach. Maybe I don't know enough about the school. My friend got in last year and her stats weren't this good and she went to public school

I live in ann arbor and uofM is a VERY nice school....would be my top choice if i didnt live here, i want to go out of state.

stats look good, they definitly do not look at freshman grades.
Im in the same situation as you are, my freshman grades werent that great (3.2 W) but i worked soph. year and brough my gpa up.
I also play lacrosse....what team do you play for in NJ?
Uof M would be a reach
Is thier anyway for you to bring your grades up? retake some online or during summer school? We are told by the counselors that if we have good EC and play a sport then the minimum gpa you should have for instate is a 3.7 to 3.8

I play for West Windsor-Plainsboro HS North and no...i don't think i will have the opportunity to retake those classes. My GPA recalculated is about a 3.7 unweighted without freshman year (although i'm not sure how UMich re-calculates their applicants' GPAs)

What are my chances at these other schools: Boston U, U. of Maryland, and Tufts?

You leave too many details out of the equation. IS your 3.5 GPA including your horrible 2.9 Freshman year? If so, your Michigan GPA would be closer to 3.7. Secomdly, did you already apply or are you applying now? Thirdly, are you applying to LSA or to Engineering?

my 3.5 unweighted gpa IS including my 2.9 freshman year...i'm applying to LSA and my app should be in by the end of this month (yes i know i should have applied much earlier)

The good news is, Michigan does not look at Freshman grades. So your cumulative unweighed GPA is probably closer to 3.7, with an upward trend. So you are fine there. Your SAT of 1450 is excellent, so you are certaonly fine in that regard. And LSA is less selective than Engineering, so at least you are not applying to the most selective college within the University. So in all those ways, you will be ok. However, it is getting late. Your chances are still good, but had you applied 6 weeks ago, you would have been accepted for sure. Now, I would put your odds at 60/40 in favor of getting in. Good luck and keep us posted.

Boston University
University of Maryland- College Park
Tufts University
Boston College
Brandeis University
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
Haverford College

I assume that Tufts, Dartmouth, Cornell, Haverford and probably UMich are all reaches, but i would like to get some other opinions...

im applying to cornell as well, check my stats (search gh0st33 ; im using gh0st cuz admin currently killed gh0st33). i think cornell may be a reach for you due to your standardized testing scores. if you want engineering, you must also take a science sat II
