Hello all.
Wondering if anyone can give me an idea of my chances at U mich ann arbor. By the end of my junior year I will have an unweighted gpa of 3.58 and a weighted gpa of 3.78. My act score is a 30, but i feel ill be able to get it to a 31. My case is a little bit different, however because of my average gpa. I had a 3.11 freshman year (i had my head in the clouds) but have shown miraculous improvement (I now have a 3.86 in my junior year unweighted and a 4.2 weighted). I am a four year varsity soccer player and two year varsity lacrosse player, and I have worked at the ymca for the past two summers. Any thoughts? reminder: keep in mind i realize my gpa is a little bit low, but im wondering my chances if you take into consideration my drastic improvement since freshman year.
Thanks all!

Forgot to mention, I am a white male (I know it plays some role) and my high school is a highly competitive prep school in san diego

Apply early on. With a 30 you’re probably on the bubble. Not sure of your SAT 2 scores. I know people with 33 ACT and SAT 2’s over 730 who were waitlisted. Show interest and tell them it is your first choice. Thanks to US News, they want to know that you will attend. The process stinks. good luck.

What is your uw GPA without freshman year?

Bill scho Without freshman year my gpa will be a 3.66 at the end of this semester
Fredmark thanks

Also, how much of a difference do you think the strong upward trend will make?

so you think it will be a reach, but better chance if i apply early action?

A strong upward trend would help when you have sub par GPA. The average for admission last year was 3.83 and the average ACT score was 31 (mid 50% 29-33). If yo can bring up your ACT above 31, you will be a high match or better. If not, you will be a low reach.

High match meaning within reach? ok so seems like act is very important to get up, and do you think e.a?

High match means slightly lower chance than match but better than low reach.
Chance go up in the order below:

High reach
Reach
Low reach
High Match
Match
Low match
Safety

Match means your credential meet or slightly exceed their admission average, and you should have a decent chance to get in. High reach means almost no chance at all.

cool thanks. any good schools you can suggest based on my credentials?

What are your intended major and home state?

California, undecided.

Is there any reason you are interested in UMich? It is very expensive for OOS. You probably want to look at some UCs.

^^ Looking at UCs would definitely be a good idea even if money does not matter at all.

Right now, it could still be a low-reach, but if your course-load is good and you can get a 32+ on the ACT, you have a good chance at getting in.

Chance me back?

Then work hard to bump up your GPA and test score. It is going to be >$50K per year.
