Chances at UNC, Princeton, Stanford, Pitt, and more!

Hey guys,

I posted in this thread last year, but right now I'm in my senior year and things have changed. My academic situation is slightly different, and the list of schools I'm applying to has changed as well.

Stats:

White male

4.36 weighted GPA

10 APs by graduation

2330 SAT score (1540 CR + M)

Class President all 4 years of high school

Employed 18 hours a week at a burger place, changes to 36 hrs/wk during the summer.

Captain of Debate Team

Member of NHS

Pretty involved with robotics and science olympiad

Contributing writer of school newspaper - I prefer humanities more

No national awards but I am a national merit semifinalist and AP scholar if that helps.

The main thing I want to stress here is my leadership - I think that has helped me in high school.

Early Action Schools:

UNC Chapel Hill (Out of State)
Pitt (In-State)
Princeton

RD Schools:

Stanford
Harvard
Duke

All chances are appreciated, thanks everybody! :D

First, Lots of extracurriculars? Can you give us more details? Do you mean participating lots of clubs? Then that would not be much of help. Did you take SATII tests? While GPA and SAT score is fabulous for all schools, there will be many students with similar numbers.

Second, can you show us any ECs that show your particular interest? GPA and SAT alone won’t be enough to show what you are capable of.

UNC Chapel Hill: Match
Pitt: match
Princeton/Harvard: Reach. they are Ivies
Stanford: reach
Duke: High math~low reach

ECs are few, but leadership is there. Your job experience especially will help you. You’re different from most people, but still competitive for the top schools.

UNC- Match
Pitt- Low match
Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Duke - Reach

By the way @paul2752 I have no idea how you could say participating in lots of clubs is not much help, or Stanford would be a low reach. Both statements are false.

Chance me? <a href=“Claremont Mckenna, Duke, Bucknell, Grinnell, UofR chances! - #31 by RaviOnIce - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/17638913

Sorry, I meant to write reach not a low reach.
Let me clarify @Woandering‌ when I wrote “participating in lots of clubs” I meant “just being a member”
For example, being a member of random clubs without achieving something, you know? .While it’s nice to have well rounded interests, you have to show something

Thanks for the chance guys. I can clarify a bit further if you want. I’m taking the math 2 subject test this upcoming saturday. I got a high 700 on US history. 5s on the all AP exams I took so far. My teachers basically hinted that I would have pretty great recs, and I already wrote a few of my essays and I think they are pretty unique in characterizing my leadership in the school community. I do have some ECs I didn’t mention, but most of the stuff I do is through my presidency. I pour in around 10/15 hours a week for that. Thanks again :)

I’ll bump because I’ll be getting off soon - would love to hear more input from others!

strong candidate for all of them so long as the essay is brilliant

Thanks fellas. I’m a decent writer so we’ll see how that goes.
