I’m a junior (haven’t taken sat yet) but I’m really interested in finance/economics.
3.65/3.75 gpa
Only 1 ap but I’m planning to take at least 4 more next year
All honors/ib/ap classes except math classes fr. and soph. year
decent ec’s, subpar not considering sports
1270 on psat - I’m hoping for around 1400 give or take on sat
Schools: Umich, Northeastern, Boston College, Boston University, Indiana University, UNC, Villanova, Georgetown, NYU
Some of these schools (NYU, Indiana, Villanova) are relatively easy to get into, but i’ve heard their business programs are much harder to get into.
If you could chance me at any of these that would be great.
I don’t know much about Indiana, but I think to be competitive for NYU or Villanova you need to be at least in the upper 1300s. As for the rest, above 1400 would be good (especially if you’re out of state for umich and UNC). BU is generally slightly easier to get into than BC and Northeastern.
Considering you’re a junior, you still have time to get your scores up, just start studying a lot now. Your gpa looks good, just make sure you keep working hard all the way through first semester of senior year. Also for your ECs, try to join a club or two this semester if you can. Plus if you have the chance to be in an honor society, that can usually help a lot. Good luck!
Are you out of state for the three state schools? That will make it harder. Make sure you apply to whatever your best instate school is.
NYU and Villanova are not relatively easy to get in, even for non-business. My daughter was waitlisted at NYU with a 3.9/4.3 and 1470. And Villanova’s average stats are definitely above 3.7 for GPA, and a little above 1400 for SAT. With your current and expected stats, Georgetown is probably a very high reach, Indiana a likely accept, and the others at least a slight reach. By slight reach, I mean that more than half the students with your stats (and in some cases, well more than half) won’t be accepted.
That sounds a little pessimistic, but on the other hand, you have a year to improve your stats. And even if the 7 schools mentioned are a bit of a reach (I could be wrong!), you still could apply to those you really like and that are better prospects for you and very possibly get into some. I just think you should have at least two or three other schools (besides Indiana) that are more of a match or safety on your list as well.
