Chances at Undergraduate Business Schools?

Hello CC, I know there is a lot of chance threads right now because of the June SAT I results, but I didn't see any love for the business schools so I had to make my own thread...

Schools I intend on applying to (for Business):

University of Texas at Austin (McCombs)
Texas A&M University (Mays)
University of Michigan (Ross)
Penn State (Smeal)
UNC Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)

School Type: Public
Location: Texas
Race/Gender: Caucasian Male

Unweighted GPA: 3.80
Weighted GPA: 4.5
Class rank: 99 / 1047 (Expect to go up to ~8% after 6th semester GPA is calculated)

SAT I Math: 670
SAT I Critical Reading: 690
SAT I Writing: 790, 10 Essay
SAT I Composite: 2150
SAT I C+R: 1380

Do the big state schools that I want to apply to place any emphasis on the SAT Writing section? UT-McCombs publishes their mean SAT of the freshmen classes and they are always on a scale of 1600. Any feedback or input on this would help me a lot!

I won't be applying for any financial aid. Decent class rigor (One levels class in 4 years, mostly AP & Honors classes).

~Extracurriculars~
Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor society) - 2 years
National Honor Society - 2 years
Business Professionals of America (Business club) - 3 years, secretary 1 year
Student Council - 2 years

Not a lot of volunteering or anything special. My EC's are pretty weak.

Thanks so much for reading!

Have you considered UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business? You seem to have a good enough GPA and SAT for it.

Wow I’ve never really considered it because I always thought my scores & EC’s weren’t quite up to par but I’ll definitely check it out, thanks!

Bump! 10 char

bump 10 char

Last bump. Show me some love!

B-Schools seem to be obsessing more and more on Math SATs, so while you writing score clearly helps in total it may not pull the weight you want it to with a business school. I think Michigan, Berkeley and UNC need to be treated as reaches. Michigan is a three year program and Berkeley a two-year; you apply and are admitted after you’ve been going there for one or two years. There is no guarantee of admission and the rumor around Ann Arbor is the you need at least a 3.5 to have a chance at Ross. Also, I don’t know if it’s a factor, but those stats won’t generate much if any merit aid at any of the state schools; you’ll be looking at full price offset by loans.

A school where you have a good chance of getting in with a very good business school is Indiana. Personally I think it is stronger than Penn State.

Thanks so much for replying! Yes, I do consider Michigan, Berkeley and UNC as reach schools. I’m aware of the b-school entry methods which make me uncomfortable going there at all.
My dream school is UT-McCombs, where I am in-state… Second choice is A&M where I hope I could get some merit aid.
Do you think I should take the SAT again (this would be my third time)? I improved 70 points in math since the first time I took it.
