I really love University of Delaware but am worried I will not get in because I am out of state and it is much more competitve for OOS applicants. My SAT scores are Reading:570, Math:550, and Verbal:620. I have a 3.76 weighted GPA. I have leadership on a sports team and in clubs. I think I have a solid essay and I also interviewed at the school with a student admissions officer. Do I have a good chance of getting accepted into the elementary education major at UDel??

Your grades are fine, but your SAT scores appear to be a little below average. UDel did accept more than 40% of the OOS so I would call the school as a high Match.

High match because U Delaware is almost as protectionistic as UNC-CH (albeit with a lower caliber student body)

Thank you! That is somewhat reassuring.

I’m sorry but what does “protectionistic” mean??

It means that out-of-staters have a much more difficult chance of getting in.

For example, UCs used to be very protectionistic, but they have relaxed it significantly due to budget problems which are solved when out-of-staters pay full price.

oh ok, thanks. So you are saying I probably have a good chance of getting in even though it is more competitive for out of state because I will have to pay full price?

I don’t know how true that statement really is.
Delaware is a very small state.
Almost twice as many UDEL main campus (Newark) undergrads are from out-of-state:

Interesting.

I’ve heard that out-of-staters would have a more difficult time at getting in but you have a very good shot. 1790 SAT isn’t horrible, so keep your head up about that. Your grades are better than the norm of accepted at UD so I’m optimistic about your chances :)

Chance me???

I actually have a 1740 not a 1790 haha but thank you!!

oops, i apologize. long day so don’t judge haha
