I'm a junior in high school right now, planning on applying to USD.
Grades aren't too great, GPA is around a 3.1 and weighted is 3.6, but I am hoping to bring this up. I've taken mostly honors, but no APs, though I plan to take a few next year. Though my grades this year I have showed a lot of improvement, and even if this isn't reflected in my grades, my teachers could write me some great recommendation letters.
SAT is a 1740, but I'm going to take a prep course (shooting for 1900).
As for extracurriculars I was on varsity crew freshman year and played violin up until then as well. I've been in a few clubs (young enterprise and french club). I've done a few service trips, but I'm not sure whether to count them because they were one time things. I currently volunteer at a daycare center about 5 hrs per week, and I am planning on getting a job over the summer. I've applied for a leadership seminar in DC that my school is offering, so if I do get into that that may look good.
To balance out my academic issues I am considering doing the Cornell summer college this summer, but I'm not sure how much that would help.
I am also from New York, so I'm not sure how much preference they give to out of state students. I've also heard that they are trying to increase diversity and I'm a minority), so maybe that will help. I am also Catholic so that may give me preference, as it is a Catholic school.

Thanks!!
