Chances at University of Texas engineering program for in-state student?

I live in Texas and have a 4.49 unweighted GPA (top 10%) and a 3.76 weighted GPA( mostly A’s with a couple of B’s).
I got a 33 on my ACT and a 1540 on my SAT and a 1470 on the psat.
I did FBLA(3 years), MU ALPHA THETA(3), TENNIS(1), BAND(1), and NHS(2).
I did an internship and have alot of volunteer hours with three letters of recomendations.
What are my chances at UT engineering

UT Austin is a reach if you are not in the automatic admission category (top 7% Texas applicant). Applying to an engineering major makes it even more of a reach.

Other UTs may be easier to get into.

What’s your class rank?

61/706 class rank

So i have no chance?

Consider it a reach.

Really? One of my friends in top 15 percent got in and he got a lower sat score and is involved in less clubs, many people got into ut in my school that weren’t in top ten. Why is it a reach?

Because you are not in top 7%, so you will go to review https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions

You and I have similar stats from back when I applied to UT Austin OOS for EE. I ended up being accepted so you never know. Since you’re not in the top 7% of your class, it will be an uphill battle, but you have a chance. The things I feel you are missing are leadership experience and demonstrated interest in engineering. Admissions might not see you in roles with a lot of responsibility, and you might have only one or two things on your application that are engineering-related. You’ll have to make up the difference in your essays.

You can go for it if you want, it’s definitely not impossible. Good luck!

I’ve read there are a lot of other great engineering programs in Texas so just be sure to have a good safety to apply to as well. It’s easy to get a short list by state for EE programs through the ABET site’s search tool (the organization that accredits engineering programs). http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx

You have great stats and would qualify for a great merit package from University of Toledo http://www.utoledo.edu/Programs/undergrad/Electrical-Engineering if you were willing to go OOS and might be surprised that the net price comes in under in-state for many other schools (maybe not for Texas, I’m not very familiar but I know it’s cheaper for folks on the east coast). It is the number one pick among Michigan students going OOS.

OOS merit aid page http://www.utoledo.edu/admission/freshman/scholarships/2018/out-of-state.html

They require a co-op, and that freshman and sophomores living outside a 25 mile radius live on campus.

Might consider it for a safety if you can’t find a program in Texas you want.

I got into Electrical and Computer Engineering at UT Austin.
