Chances at UP

I’m gonna try this one more time before I apply in the fall.

Numbers:
GPA- UW3.2 W3.5
Trend- Bad freshman year good sophomore year great junior year
SAT- M600 CR560 W540 (1700)

EC:
Great ECs and can write a killer personal statement. I know all of that doesn’t count for much.

Difficulty of Schedule:
Very hard schedule.
Have taken many APs and Honors since freshman year and have picked a difficult schedule for senior year.
I’m taking English 101 and English 102 as a senior.

Further Info:
I am applying DUS for a better chance.
Sadly I cannot do the summer session for financial reasons. :frowning:
Out of state. (NJ)
Best high school in the area.
Class rank is unknown.

Bonus Question:
Should I, instead of applying September 1st, take the October SAT to try to get a higher score?

Answers:

  1. What are my chances of admission?
    0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

  2. Should I retake the SAT or apply as soon as possible?
    Retake, Apply ASAP

Thanks to all, and good luck for anyone else applying. I’ll give you my opinion on your stats too if you need.

Okay, I edited this comment because I didn’t realize you are planning to apply to DUS. I think your chances are around 3-4. If you can increase your SAT to around 2000, I think you’ll be in the 4-5 range. If SAT is hard, try taking the ACTs somewhere in December or November. If you want to get a good score though, you will have to study diligently scores around 31 and above should be good

Maybe a 3.

Your GPA falls below their average accepted GPA scale which is not good to be honest, considering GPA is 2/3 of the application process. Not doing summer hurts also.

Lol, i’m sorta in the same situation as you except my GPA falls in range while my ACT/SAT doesn’t.

Yea, try retaking the SAT. Your only 50 points below the average range.

Good luck!, btw how did u study for the math section on the SAT (i need help in that).
Try to profit in that section as it seems your strong point.

Do whatever you can to apply by November 30th. That means that you need to have ALL materials in by then. So don’t take the ACT in November unless you can get those scores to PSU before the end of November. After November 30th, it gets even more difficult to gain admission. My D has about the same GPA as you, but higher ACT/SAT scores (28 Composite and 32 in Writing) and got into DUS for summer. Had she not put summer, she would not have gotten in. But each year is different. You can’t change your GPA at this point, but you can get a better test score. Do that in October and get your application in and COMPLETE by Nov. 30th.

Are you applying to uPenn or PSU?

@ClarinetDad16 PSU

Invest time in SAT - get your scores up and you are in the running
