I have 2 great teacher recommendation and my essays are alright, although essays are not my strong suit

UVA and Michigan are probably reaches for you. Your academics alone are good and strong but you will be competing among a pool of kids who excel in multiple areas of development and experience and have insane standardized test score stats-from athletic champions to finding a cure for cancer (tongue in cheek here) to winning national science prizes, being strong leaders, performers, and so on. You do have a good challenging course load which is important to show.

You glossed over your 300 hours of volunteering at a local nonprofit. What is that about? You need to be able to present what is special about you, what you have a passion for, what you are growing through doing/experiencing. 300+ volunteer hours may tell a meaningful story but you didn’t give enough info on that for me to be able to meaningfully comment.

Same w your part time working. How much? Why? How have you grown from it?

And do you have any “hooks”? such as being a legacy or a minority (but you said you are white) or a disability?

It is always worth putting forth your best effort in an application. The only thing for sure is that if you don’t apply, you have zero chance.

Penn State is the one match you listed. Your SAT & GPA is above average for this school.
But, UVA & Michigan are very selective for even the most qualified kids. Your ECs are weak (but you stated that so lol). Only reason i believe those are reaches are due to your ECs and the selectivity of the school itself.
