Chances at Upenn (huntsman)/ UChicago/ NYU Stern / University of Virginia

Hey guys, I applying to all these colleges RD. What you think my chances are :

SAT 1 : 2140/1440

Math : 790
Critical Reading : 650
Writing : 700

SAT 2 :

Math 2 : 790
Math 1 : 730
Literature : 740

I've got pretty solid recommendations from all my teachers. Also, my essays were pretty good.

ECs :

School Core Committee Member
School Master Of Ceremonies
Editorial Board of School Magazine
Varsity and State Basketball
Media and Cultural Group
School Web and Creative Design Team
School Photography and Videography

I got a 85.4 % in ICSE ( I really messed up that year), but improved my grades since then.

I'm in the 12th Standard right now, and I've got 65% overall in my 11th and 67% in my 12th. My final semester results in my 12th were 72.33 % (I've heard the final term results carry more weight), which ranked me in the top 3% of my class. The class average for the final semester was about 48%.

I go to one of the most competitive schools in the country : our school average for the graduating class was 88% in the ISC boards last year, even though the the school average for the final semester was only about 50 %. Usually the marks jump forward by about 20-25%. Ideally my ISC board marks should be over 90% (hopefully), as my school counselor predicted in my International Supplement.

What do you guys think my chances are ?

Also, when is it necessary to send in the Final Report ? Is it after the boards, or after your school's final semester examinations ?

All places are very tough to get into. Best of Luck!!

WARNING: Posting Chance threads in the Indian forum can be injurious to your health.

Gary is true.
Mr.lyrikal (related to ‘lyrical’?), why are you asking your competitors to chance you?

its easy to get in.
people are out here to demoralize you in the chance threads.

@ani-

 1. Its very much possible to get in, NOT easy. Especially at places like U Chicago.
 2. The guys in the ‘Indian’ forum at least are not lame demoralizers, unless you insult somebody or act like an arrogant *******. With a little bit of courtesy you might be able to derive a great deal of advice and assistance for your US apps.
 3. Chance threads just don’t work out. There are a dozen other more important factors to consider. And what matters is the ‘overall package’. Not just dumb SAT scores/big awards. If you want to check out how you compare to the ideals of the insane CC statistician, go to the usual “What are my chances?” forum. There will be very few Indians here who believe in ‘chancing’.

Hopefully you’ll spend more time here and understand how things work before passing judgements on us. Please don’t take offence, I know your statement did not have any intentions of insulting anybody/stereotyping, but it won’t be much use for you to remain on CC if you do end up developing a ‘everybody here is a selfish competitor’ sort of attitude.

Edit: Read http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/770701-guide-chancing.html</a>
and there are a couple of other entries like that in the Harvard forum and other important places.

I’m sorry dude.

Please forgive me! The comment wasn’t intentional, but I have seen people with stellar EC’s and grades asking to be chanced and you’ll say that they don’t have much chance of getting into a top university… :S

Good one gary!

I never understood these chance me threads. Is this some kind of nervous habit?

You spend a few bucks on Princeton Review Best Colleges guide and you can tell if you are in the ball park as far as stats are concerned. Most colleges publish them and it is not that hard to find them using your favorite search engine.

You can always go to previous year’s decision threads and get an idea.
