Chances at UPenn, NYU, Cornell, Boston College, Carnegie Mellon

My goal is to attend the best business/finance school possible in the northeast.

White Male
New Jersey
Competitive High School: I believe my school doesn't rank students, but im confident im in the top 10% of my class.
SAT: 630 verbal, 720 math, 630 writing. I just took SATs again this past weekend, so hopefully my verbal / writing will go up a bit.
GPA: 3.88 - My school is odd because we do not scale scores if you take honors / AP. For instance, a 3.0 in an AP course does not get weighted to a 4.0. Also, we grade out of a 4.5 scale. Therefore, I don't know what my weighted score on a 4.0 scale is.
SAT IIs: I plan to take them this fall.

I've extremely knowledgable about the stock market and finance in general. Over the past few months, I've more than tripled the net worth of my stock portfolio. I don't know how much colleges will care about this, but i might talk about my interest in the stock market in an application essay.

I have no idea what safety school(s) to apply to.

bumpppppppp

Upenn/cornell are reaches
NYU i think a match if you have good essays and show a lot of hard work
Carnegie melon also a close match if good essays

Any other opinions?
Boston College?
Safety Schools?
Is my high interest and early success in the stock market somewhat of a hook ?

Bump it up. More opinions please

i think the fact that you wanna major in business and that you are already intertestd in the business and stock market will play a HUGE part. write excellent essays about thse and it'll show that you actually are dedicated to your major and future path :)

EDIT: Your sat's good enough for NYU and BC i think

I agree, if you can write a good essay, showing your interest and perhaps even your stock market successes (in some way) that could be a boost.

Personally I'd consider UPenn a giant reach. Cornell, NYU Stern and CMU I'd consider reaches. Wanted to point out at CMU you apply directly to Tepper (same for Wharton and Stern) and their 2006 acceptance rate was 17%, with a big increase in applications for 2007. I agree I'd work at bringing up the SATs.

Don't know about BC. Safeties...definitely Rutgers. PSU?, UMd? (both I'd call safe matches).

I think that all are reaches. BC is less of a reach, but you're applying to the top business schools, which are WAY more selective than the regular CAS. Bring up those scores to have a MUCH better chance. 2100+

Hmm.. Theres two more chances for me to take SATs and one of those has to be SATIIs. If i take the SATs again in the fall, i can probably get to 2100, but it would be the third time i took them. Regardless, i guess ill probably take them a third time :X.
