Hello, I plan on applying ED to UPENN. I go to a magnet school in California.

Rank: apprx 25/500

Tutoring young kids in math
Varsity Tennis (10, 11)
Business Club
SpanHnrsSciety
NHS

Placed in National Science League Test
PSAT recognition

APs
Calc AB/BC - 5
Bio - 5
Chem - 5
Physics C- 5
Statistics - 5

anyone tell me what my chances are at being admitted?

do this in a penn forum

cali helps in applying to east coast schools (i dont know how much for a place as competitive as penn

APs are high

the high rank helps

your SATs are on the low side (only one above 700 will hurt for CAS and Wharton)

aside from tennis your ECs arent the best, but i know sports take alot of time. if you are being recruited then you may very well get into penn.

because you go to a magnet school, it's going to be competitive. better hope the 24 kids above you all dont like penn too.

depends which school you apply to CAS your chances arent the best, SEAS your chances are better because of less competition and the high math and science scores and Wharton no shot for your non Val rank and your non 2350 SAT and the fact it is impossible to get into for Vals with 2400s.

just remember, im a kid and know 0 about the admissions process. im basing this on the people at my school who got in penn ed and rd last year.

Hmmm well i can try to help. Okay I got rejected ED last year, and my stats are: 740 CR, 790 M, and 680 W; SAT IIs: MAth IIC 800, US History 780

I was a NMSQT finalist
ECs may have or may not been better than yours
Rank: 8/274 so about even: 3.96 UW

However, my essay that sent in sucked so I would suggest trying to make your essay really good, and then you would have a better chance. Oh and it doesnt help that I'm Asian either, but just giving you a comparison.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does CAS and SEAS stand for? I know Wharton is for business and Huntsman for international relations

what would be my best way to improve my app, retake the SAT I?

If i were to increase my SAT I scores such that writing and CR were over 700, would that help?

CAS is college of arts and sciences (commonly known as the college), and SEAS is school of engineering and applied science

It's interesting...getting a 5 on a chem ap exam but a paltry 730 on the chem sat II. why is that?

are the sat II's really that hard in comparison with ap exams for the same subjectss!!!!!???

If so, then I'm screwed.. becaues i'm not taking ap bio and i'm attempting to take the bio sat II

SO can anyone give me feedback on my situation,
I can retake the SAT I once more - and if i improve CR to 710 and W to 730
will that improve my chances any?

It would be great if someone could give me some advice: should i improve SAT I, or spend more time on essay, although i think i have perfected it

my extracurriculars are kind of weak, what options do i have left, im going to be a senior this year

i feel 100% though that my essays are great

so anyone else gonna give me some recs as to how to improve my chances?

Your chances are about average, by the "qualified" student standard. So average would be 20-30%.

Nothing stands out. Even GPA and scores are nothing extraordinary in the context of the Penn pool. Best things you can do at this point are to apply ED and improve your SAT as much as possible, preferably to 2200+.

i realize i havent done anything spectacular
but do understand that all of my courses were AP

and I have a big problem with critical reading score, i nee to get it above 700. Any advice as to how i can accomplish that goal?

You lack the EC leadership that Ivy League, and competitive schools in general look for in their applicants. Aside from your SAT I CR section, your scores seem pretty good. I would say that your essays are going to be your ticket in. I don't see anything on your application that makes you drastically different from the other 3,000 applicants that apply ED. Sorry for the flipancy, but its the truth.

When my guidance counselor asked why I had been rejected, it was because nothing "stood out" according to them

While your stats are impressive, there are a lot of other kids with the same stats(or better) that want that same spot at UPenn. Try to find something or accomplish something ASAP that will make the admissions people choose YOU, otherwise i think you'll need a lot of luck.
