Chances at UT Austin, Texas A&M, UCs

4.2 Senior

AP World History- 4
AP European History- 4
AP English 11- 5
AP Stats- 5
AP US History- 4
AP English 12- Pending
AP Government 12- Pending

100/700 rank

Every course in my schedule is AP or honors. I am also an Eagle Scout, and have lots of volunteer experience in my community. I am active in a few clubs at school and play guitar in the church band. If it matters, I am a middle class white male.

I'm applying to

San Diego State (Accepted)
UC Riverside (Accepted)
UC San Diego
UC Irvine
UC Berkeley (hahah)
Texas A&M
University of Texas at Austin (first choice)

I'd say pretty good chances at Texas and A&M.

San Diego State (Accepted)
UC Riverside (Accepted)
UC San Diego--Slight Reach
UC Irvine--Match
UC Berkeley-Reach
Texas A&M-Match
University of Texas at Austin--Automatic Match (automatic if top 10% of Texas high school class)

Keep in mind that the UCs only use the sophomore and junior years, which comes out for you to around a 3.88 UC GPA

100/700 is not top 10%, Calcruzer -- it's top 14%. Admission to UT Austin (even if the OP is in-state) won't be automatic, although they do have pretty decent chances.

3.88 soph jr GPA, 30 ACT, out of state.

if you could give me your UC GPA (capped weighted gpa for soph jr years) it would help with your odds a lot. but if your uc gpa is around a 3.88 and 30 act, your odds for uc out of state should be:

UCI: Match (oos) (in state average uc gpa is 3.89)
UCSD: Slight Reach-Reach (oos) (in state average uc gpa is 4.04 gpa)
UC Berkeley: Reach (oos) (in state average uc gpa is 4.17)

Texas A&M: Safe Match-Safety (in state)
UT: Match (in state)

Just like to add that I am from California.

dan087:

UCB: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI: Match
UCR: Safe Match

Berkeley: reach
UCSD: high match
UCI: match

Your rank hurts you the most.

Yeah, the rank is unfortunate...but does anyone else get the feeling that Dan should be looking for more reaches?

I'm not applying to any school just because of its prestige/reputation. I've visited all of those, and chose them because I felt they were a good all around fit for me, especially UT. I just felt like I belonged there.

"Yeah, the rank is unfortunate...but does anyone else get the feeling that Dan should be looking for more reaches?"

MORE REACHES??? UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD all are reaches or slight reaches. I would say Texas-Austin, and UCI are matches and Texas A&M as a safe match-safety. If anything he should have more matches or safe matches. He has three reaches. Never hurts to add more I agree, but before i did that i would add more matches and safe matches.
