Chances at UVa and UT Austin, OOS?

I'm a senior and am trying to figure out what schools are a reach for me, and which ones would be a wasted application and application fee...I am looking for input on my chances of getting into the University of Virginia and University of Texas, Austin. I am a Caucasian female.

Residency: OOS for both

Standardized tests: ACT Composite: 30 (I know this is low- taking again later this month and it looks like I can get it up (hopefully) to a 32, maybe a 33. Current Math/English combined score is a 33). SAT Math II- 730. APs: Calc AB (5), Statistics (4), World History (3- probably won't report this). I'm taking French, Bio, and US History this year.

Class rank: 4/380 (slightly above average public school). GPA: 4.427 weighted, 4.0 weighted

Leadership: VP of state student council organization, counselor at leadership camp, treasurer of school student council, Relay for Life student committee president/student coordinator, world language honor society French Secretary, Students Against Destructive Decisions secretary (junior), president (senior), Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar Ambassador

ECs: Key club, national honor society, cross country (freshman-junior), class council, welcoming committee, Leo's club, girl scouts, robotics, volunteer at camp for special needs children, FBLA

Awards: HOBY Presidential Service Award, Girl Scout Silver Award

Work Experience: Local bakery 10-15 hrs/week since last September

Major: torn between biology and middle eastern studies- may go undecided

Any input is much appreciated!

My brother applied to UVA for biology and was denied, and your stats look far better than his. :stuck_out_tongue: I would say it’s a high match, maybe a low reach. As for UT Austin, I think that’s a match, especially if your ACT score goes up. Have you thought of taking the subject test for Biology? If you think you can score well on it, that might be helpful if you pursue biology as an anticipated major. Neither of these schools are wasted application fees for sure, you should definitely apply to both. Good luck! :)

UVA: Low Reach because you can never be sure
UT Austin: Match

UVA: high match (bring ACT score to at least a 32)
UT Austin: match

^Agree with scderek4
You can definitely shoot higher :)
