Math IC - 700
Bio - 560 (I know, I know...it was freshman year.)

ECs:

Tutoring club for students at the middle school (founder and co-president)
Camp counselor for 4 summers (volunteered one year)

I'm a white female from New York. I moved from Houston, TX when I was 13 if it matters. I go to a high-ranking public HS. They don't rank students, but my counselor's guess is that I'm in the top 7%.

I've pretty much taken the most rigorous courses offered (a lot of honors, 6 APs total assuming I don't drop any next year). Thus far, if I get any B's in high school, it'll probably be this year for physics, but it would definitely be 88 or 89.

I want to major in either linguistics or int'l relations.

UVA will be a reach...it's very difficult for out of state students. I'm not sure how much ED will help. Tufts and William & Mary are matches. GTown is slight-moderate reach. Best of luck...but may I suggest more safeties? :o

Thanks. Yeah, absolutely! The only safeties I've looked at are Maryland and BC (though maybe that's a match? I'm not sure.) I didn't like BC, but UMD was alright. I hope to visit Penn State in August.

Hi! You have similar background to my daughter who just completed her first year at Cornell-ILR. We're from NYS too-(Long Island). She too "fell in love" with UVA and applied ED- (rejected) also applied Georgetown (rejected)-- but was Accepted to William and Mary. She also applied and was accepted to CMU- U of Rochester-Boston U and some SUNY schools. UVA and Wm & Mary are very hard for OOS kids to get into. There were 3 kids from her HS who applied ED and one RD. They were all rejected but 2 went to Cornell-1 to Tufts and one to UNC. All of them had grades and ranking similar to you. It's extremely tough for a NY kid to get into UVA (unless you play Lacrosse or soccer). You have the grades and ranking for all the schools listed but sometimes it comes down to a bit of luck. IMO you may have the most luck with Tufts- try to visit the school- See if they scheduled "admission sessions" in your area. Try to have some contact with their Admission Rep.since for some schools that additional contact helps in the admission process. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I loved Tufts, and about 8 kids from my school are attending next year, so hopefully I'll have a good shot. I'm thinking of applying ED to UVA and then EDII to Tufts if I'm not accepted. Does anyone know if that's allowed if I'm deferred from UVA?
